WHAT'S NEW

AADR Members Well Represented at IADR General Session

Over 1,000 AADR members (750 Members and 240 Student members) attended the IADR General Session & Exhibition.

AADR members were also well represented in the presentation area, with 556 presentations, 138 of which were by students.  There were 341 poster presentations, 96 of which were by students.  And finally, 215 AADR members made oral presentations; 42 of them were students.

Congratulations to AADR member Erica Scheller, University of Michigan, USA, who won second place in the Junior Category of the IADR Hatton Awards.

IADR Council Approves Regional Structure

The IADR Council approved the initial Regional structure for the IADR.  The Regions are North America, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, Africa/Middle East and European.

AADR Strides in Science

AADR Strides in Science is a new monthly feature highlighting an AADR member’s accomplishments and comments on how his/her involvement with the AADR has been an important part of his/her career in research.  If you would like to nominate a colleague to be featured, please send his/her name to scienceadvocate@aadronline.org

U.S. National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research Celebrates 60th Anniversary
Six AADR members helped the NIDCR celebrate its 60th Anniversary by presenting during the “NIDCR 60th Anniversary Scientific Symposium” on June 24 at the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, Md. 
Update on NIDCR Strategic Plan

The NIDCR is soliciting comments that will assist in the crafting of a Strategic Plan for 2009-2013.

NIDCR’s 60th Anniversary Symposium: Contributions of Canadian Pain Research

To help improve our understanding of and treatment approaches to pain, the U.S. National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, has played a lead role in funding pain research in North America.

Univ. of Pennsylvania’s Dean Resigns

The University of Pennsylvania Health System announced that Marjorie Jeffcoat, dean of the School of Dental Medicine, stepped down from her position on July 1.

AADR Member Dr. Philip Trackman Awarded Department of Defense Grant

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine Professor of Periodontology and Oral Biology Dr. Philip Trackman was awarded an "Idea Award” grant from the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP).

Dr. Peter Damiano to Receive 2008 Regents Award for Faculty Excellence

AADR member Dr. Peter Damiano, Preventive and Community Dentistry, and director, Public Policy Center, is one of six University of Iowa faculty who will receive the 2008 Regents Award for Faculty Excellence.

Dr. Henrietta Logan wins American College of Dentists Award of Merit

AADR member Dr. Henrietta Logan has won an Award of Merit from the American College of Dentists.

The abstracts submission site for the 2009 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition opened last month.
