Journal of Dental Research Increases its Scientific Impact Factor
The International and American Associations for Dental Research announced that its Journal of Dental Research (JDR) has increased its Five-Year Scientific Impact Factor (SIF) from 4.195 to 4.389. In the Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine” category, the Journal ranked #1 in Article Influence.

The August 2011 issue of the Journal of Dental Research is online. Your online subscription to the JDR, which is included in your membership, gives you access to the latest research published in the Journal.

Nominations for AADR Vice-president, Treasurer and IADR/AADR Publications Committee

Any AADR member may nominate individuals for AADR Vice-president, AADR Treasurer or AADR Representative to the IADR/AADR Publications Committee. Names of potential candidates must be received by August 5, 2011.

Debt Limit Vote Continues to Cloud FY12 Appropriations

The FY12 appropriations process continues to creep forward in the shadow of negotiations between the White House and congressional leaders over the debt limit and long-term deficit reduction. The Obama administration is sticking to August 2 as the date by which a deal must be reached in order to avoid what would be the first ever U.S. default on its debt.

NIH Loan Repayment Programs

The NIH has announced the continuation of educational loan repayment through its extramural Loan Repayment Programs (LRP). The LRPs encourage promising researchers and scientists to pursue careers in biomedical, behavioral, social and clinical research by repaying up to $35,000 of their qualified student loan debt each year.

NIH Seeking Nominations for Council of Public Representatives

The National Institutes of Health is accepting nominations for its Director’s Council of Public Representatives (COPR). COPR is an advisory committee consisting of members of the public, who advise the NIH Director on a variety of issues including (but not limited to) the research priority setting process and public outreach.

IOM Releases New Report Titled "Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education, and Research"

A new report released by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) offers a blueprint for action in transforming prevention, care, education and research, with the goal of providing relief for people with pain in America.

IOM report on Access to Oral Care released. Calls for support for oral health research among its findings.
In a forum at the National Press Club, on July 13th, the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) Committee on Oral Health Access to Services released its final report, "Improving Access to Oral Health Care for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations."
NIH RFI on Cost and Administrative Burden
The National Institutes of Health released a request for information on the costs and administrative burden to educational institutions associated with compliance with the requirements of federal research grants and contracts.
Funding Opportunity: NIDCR RFA on Acute to Chronic Pain Transition Re-issued

The overall goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to stimulate preclinical and clinical research that will accelerate our understanding of the biological and behavioral determinants driving the transition from acute pain to chronic pain disorders.

Funding Opportunities: Effectiveness of Treatment for Oral Diseases in Medically Compromised Patients (R01 and R21)

These Funding Opportunity Announcements encourage research related to determining outcomes of prevention and treatment strategies for oral diseases in persons with medical conditions known to severely compromise oral health.

Call for Oral Health Papers: Journal, Nursing Research and Practice
Nursing Research and Practice is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that publishes original research articles, review articles and clinical studies in all areas of nursing.
AADR Strides in Science

This month AADR member Van P. Thompson, D.D.S., Ph.D., was interviewed for the AADR Strides in Science, which is a feature highlighting an AADR member's accomplishments and comments on how his/her involvement with the AADR has been an important part of his career in research.

AADR 2012 Awards and Fellowships- Call for Applications and Nominations!
Through numerous sponsorships and donations, AADR is able to fund and administer several awards and fellowships.
NIH Funding Announcement

Research on Ethical Issues in Biomedical, Social, and Behavioral Research (R03)

This program announcement and two related announcements (R01, PA-11-180; R21, PA-11-181) comprise the fourth set in a series of consecutive FOAs published by NIH since 1999 to encourage research on ethical issues related to the conduct of biomedical, social and behavioral research within the NIH mission. 

ADA is Accepting Nominations for Norton M. Ross Award

The American Dental Association is currently accepting nominations for its 2011 Norton M. Ross Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. This award was established to recognize investigators whose clinical research has had a meaningful impact on some aspect of clinical dentistry. The award recipient will receive a $5,000 honorarium and a plaque.

AADR 4th Fall Focused Symposium

Registration is now available to attend AADR’s 4th Fall Focused Symposium: Oral Health Disparities Research and the Future Face of America. This meeting will take place November 3-4, 2011, at the Renaissance Washington, DC hotel. The complete program is available online.

The 41st Annual Meeting & Exhibition of the AADR will take place in Tampa, Florida, USA, March 21-24, 2012. This meeting will be held in conjunction with the 36th Annual Meeting of the CADR.

Educating Scientists in Research Ethics for the 21st Century: A Trainer-of-Trainers Conference
The Survival Skills & Ethics Program, HHS Office of Research Integrity and American Association of the Advancement of Science are co-organizing the a conference themed “Educating Scientists in Research Ethics for the 21st Century.” This conference will take place August 25-28, 2011 in Potomac, Maryland.
GNYAP 2011 Student Grant Program
The Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP) offers grants to support students enrolled in accredited advanced specialty education programs in prosthodontics. The goal is to provide students with an organized and meaningful research experience, under the guidance of an experienced faculty mentor, to better prepare the student for the rigors of clinical practice and academia.
