AADR Meeting Details

The 44th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) took place March 11-14, 2015, in Boston, Mass., USA. This meeting was held in conjunction with the 93rd General Session & Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research and the 39th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research.

Paul H. Krebsbach Installed as the 44th AADR President

Paul H. Krebsbach was installed as the 44th AADR president during the Closing Ceremonies of the AADR Annual Meeting. There, he gave his inaugural address, which will be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Dental Research

Donate to Research

At the meeting, AADR then-President Timothy DeRouen informed attendees of opportunities for them to support AADR’s important mission through their own personal philanthropy. He reminded attendees of AADR’s commitment to match dollar for dollar contributions up to $1 million from the AADR portfolio. DeRouen announced at the 2nd Annual AADR Donor Reception that donors have contributed and/or pledged a total of $250,135 and, with matching AADR funds, AADR has exceeded a half a million dollars!

AADR Honors UNC Student Deah Barakat

During the Opening Ceremonies, IADR/AADR honored deceased student member Deah Barakat, who was scheduled to present a poster at the meeting but was tragically murdered in February. J. Timothy Wright, AADR Board member and a faculty member of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (who was a student there) took a few moments to recognize the loss of Barakat, along with his wife Yusor Abu-Salha and sister-in-law Razan Abu-Salha. Deah was an exceptionally promising student and engaged in research in Wright’s Pediatric Dentistry Department.

2015 Awards, Fellowships and Grants Recipients
AADR is able to support research initiatives and travel to the AADR Annual Meeting through numerous awards and fellowships. The following awards and fellowships were announced during the 2015 AADR Annual Meeting.
AADR National Student Research Group

At the AADR Annual Meeting, the AADR National Student Research Group (NSRG) provided valuable opportunities for students to network with other researchers and learn more about IADR/AADR. There were symposia geared toward students, a Meet-a-Mentor Luncheon designed to enhance the learning experience for student attendees and an NSRG advocacy session titled "Concerned About Grant Funding? Learn How to #ActNow." The NSRG also co-sponsored Hands-on-Workshop #2 (with the IADR Student Training and Research [STAR] Network, and the IADR Women in Science Network) titled "Clinician Scientist Training: Towards Defining Best Principles.”
