WHAT’S NEW

The IADR/AADR Elections are Now Open - Vote By October 30
The IADR and AADR elections are closing October 30, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Voting is a membership responsibility and empowers you to elect the IADR and AADR leadership and to help shape the future of the organizations. As a Member or Retired Member of the IADR, you are entitled to vote annually for the IADR Vice-president. As a Member or Retired Member of the AADR, you are entitled to vote annually for the candidates of your choice for AADR Vice-president, AADR Joint Publications Committee Representative and every three years for AADR Treasurer as well as for any AADR Constitutional Amendments recommended by the Board and Council. This year, there is no Constitutional Amendment requiring action. 

Members received an email on August 26, which included your secure ballot code and voting instructions. If you have any questions or need more information on how to cast your vote, please contact membervote@iadr.org. There are no paper ballots, so please vote online. You may only vote once.

September 14 - Deadline to Submit Posters for 8th AADR Fall Focused Symposium: Advances in the Biology and Management of Chronic Pain

September 14, 2015, is the deadline to submit your poster for presentation consideration at the 8th AADR Fall Focused Symposium: Advances in the Biology and Management of Chronic Pain. This meeting will be held in conjunction with the ADA 2015 - America's Dental Meeting, November 3-4, 2015, in Washington, D.C., USA.

Call for Abstracts and Proposals: 2016 AADR/CADR Annual Meeting


Submit your session proposal or abstract now for the 45th Annual Meeting & Exhibition of the American Association for Dental Research, held in conjunction with the 40th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research. This combined meeting will take place in Los Angeles, Calif., USA, March 16-19, 2016. The AADR/CADR Annual Meeting & Exhibition will provide scientists and researchers throughout the world with the opportunity to present, discuss and critique their investigations.

Brazil’s National Oral Health Policy – An Example for Other Nations

IADR/AADR have published a Discovery! article titled “10 Years of a National Oral Health Policy in Brazil: Innovation, Boldness and Numerous Challenges.” In it, authors Gilberto Alfredo Pucca, Jr., University of Brasília; and Mariana Gabriel, Maria Ercilia de Araujo and Fernanda Campos Sousa de Almeida, University of São Paulo, discuss Brazil’s National Policy of Oral Health, also known as “Smiling Brazil.”

Attention Deans and Research Deans: AADR to Offer Academic Institutions Funding to Support a Student Research Day Award

AADR is instituting the AADR Student Research Day Award and encouraging academic institutions involved in dental, oral, and craniofacial research to apply for it. This new award is designed to recognize the best presentation at an academic institution’s research day competition. The award shall be determined by the institution’s judging committee.

Donate for Research

Dental research created a profession. In the early decades of the last century, investments in dental research moved a trade to a profession. From the fluoridation of public water supplies – a crowning public health achievement of the 20th Century – to high-speed handpieces, dental composites and ceramic restorations, periodontal diagnostics and therapeutics, and more biologic approaches to replacing lost tissues, it was the investments in dental research that defined us as a profession.

2016-2017 NIH Medical Research Scholars Program

The application site for the 2016-2017 NIH Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP) will open on October 1, 2015, with a submission deadline of January 15, 2016. AADR has renewed its commitment to the program and will co-sponsor the program through a $75,000 donation to the Foundation for the NIH.

Health Volunteers Oversees (HVO) has launched a program designed to develop and support a cadre of future leaders in the health care sector in resource-scarce countries. The Wyss Scholarship for Future Leaders in Global Health will allow HVO to support the professional development for health care providers at HVO project sites.

Strides in Science

Ronald Dubner, D.D.S., Ph.D. is professor in the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He holds an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. Dubner has a D.D.S. degree and a Ph.D. in physiology and has utilized both degrees throughout a research career in the area of pain and neuroscience and their relevance to orofacial health and disease.

AADR Joins Efforts to End Budget Cuts
Just weeks before federal funding runs out and draconian budget cuts stopped by a 2013 Congressional budget deal are scheduled to go back into effect, more than 2,500 national, state and local organizations including AADR are calling on Congress to avoid the impending fiscal crisis and end sequestration.
