AADR/CADR Distinguished Lecture Series speaker Frank Hu, Harvard University, Boston, Mass., is featured in a "CDA Oasis Discussions" interview with IADR member John O'Keefe, Canadian Dental Association, Ottawa, Ontario. In the interview, Hu discusses the intensification of global obesity and the implications of such a phenomenon on science and policy. Call for Submissions: JDR Special Issue on Orofacial Pain

March 31, 2016, is the deadline to submit manuscripts for publication consideration in the Journal of Dental Research special issue on orofacial pain. This issue will highlight the latest developments in the field of chronic orofacial pain. This peer-reviewed special issue will provide an assessment of the current state-of-the-art of the biology, diagnosis and clinical management of pain disorders associated with the dental, oral and craniofacial complex.

Donate for Research

Dental research created a profession. In the early decades of the last century, investments in dental research moved a trade to a profession. From the fluoridation of public water supplies – a crowning public health achievement of the 20th Century – to high-speed handpieces, dental composites and ceramic restorations, periodontal diagnostics and therapeutics, and more biologic approaches to replacing lost tissues, it was the investments in dental research that defined us as a profession.

President Obama’s FY17 Budget Request

On February 9, 2016, President Obama presented his fiscal year (FY)17 budget request to Congress. The President’s budget adheres to the budget caps established by the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015, while at the same time utilizing mandatory funding as novel approach to plus up or level fund some programs without going above the budget caps. AADR issued a statement indicating our disappointment in the budget request which proposes to cut discretionary funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by $1 billion and back fill those cuts utilizing an unauthorized mandatory funding stream.

AADR Student Advocates of the Year Winners Announced

     

AADR has announced that Steven Feldman, a student at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and Matthew Moore, a student from East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine, are the recipients of the 2016 Student Advocate of the Year Award.

AADR Student Research Day Award

AADR encourages academic institutions involved in dental, oral, and craniofacial research to apply for the AADR Student Research Day Award. This new award is designed to recognize the best presentation at an academic institution’s research day competition. The award shall be determined by the institution’s judging committee.
