Online registration has closed for the 45th Annual Meeting & Exhibition of the AADR, which will be held in conjunction with the 40th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), March 16–19, 2016, in Los Angeles, Calif. If you wish to attend, registration will be available onsite.

AADR and Friends of NIDCR on Capitol Hill: Advocacy Day Recap

On February 23, 2016, deans, researchers, students and patients from throughout the country participated in the 2016 AADR and Friends of NIDCR Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. The purpose of the advocacy day was to persuade Congress to increase funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). Central to this advocacy day was the inclusion of the voice of patient advocates, combined with a robust participation of students, researchers, professors and deans from dental schools.


Advocacy Day participants conducted nearly 70 meetings
with members of Congress.

Rep. Stewart Visits the University of Utah School of Dentistry

As a direct result of the AADR and Friends of NIDCR Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, on March 7, Representative Chris Stewart (R-Utah) visited the research laboratories of the University of Utah School of Dentistry to learn more about their important dental, oral and craniofacial research program.

Rheonix Develops Fully Automated Microfluidic System That Improves HIV Testing

Rheonix Inc., a developer of fully automated molecular testing solutions, has completed development and testing of a microfluidic system and assay to simultaneously detect host anti-HIV antibodies and viral RNA in a single specimen of saliva or blood.

Call for Submissions: JDR Special Issue on Orofacial Pain

March 31, 2016, is the deadline to submit manuscripts for publication consideration in the Journal of Dental Research special issue on orofacial pain. This issue will highlight the latest developments in the field of chronic orofacial pain. This peer-reviewed special issue will provide an assessment of the current state-of-the-art of the biology, diagnosis and clinical management of pain disorders associated with the dental, oral and craniofacial complex.

Donate for Research

Dental research created a profession. In the early decades of the last century, investments in dental research moved a trade to a profession. From the fluoridation of public water supplies – a crowning public health achievement of the 20th Century – to high-speed handpieces, dental composites and ceramic restorations, periodontal diagnostics and therapeutics, and more biologic approaches to replacing lost tissues, it was the investments in dental research that defined us as a profession.

AADR Student Research Day Award

AADR encourages academic institutions involved in dental, oral, and craniofacial research to apply for the AADR Student Research Day Award. This new award is designed to recognize the best presentation at an academic institution’s research day competition. The award shall be determined by the institution’s judging committee.

Strides in Science

Kathryn Atchison, D.D.S., M.P.H., is professor in the Division of Public Health and Community Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry and at the Department of Health Services, UCLA School of Public Health. At UCLA she also serves as the vice provost for new collaborative initiatives. Her past administrative experience includes serving as vice provost for intellectual property and industry relations and as the School of Dentistry’s associate dean for research & knowledge management.
