NIDCR January Council Meeting
The 214th meeting of the National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council will be held on January 24, 2017. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the NIH campus in Building 31C, 6th floor conference room 10, Bethesda, Maryland.

Policymakers will be making important funding decisions about fiscal year 2017, fiscal year 2018 and other programs in the upcoming months. It is critical that they hear from you—their constituents—about the importance of dental, oral and craniofacial research and its impact on the American population.

January 13, 2017, is the application deadline for The Student Advocate of the Year Award. This award allows AADR, the AADR National Student Research Group and the AADR Government Affairs Committee to recognize a student for outstanding contributions in advocacy for oral health research.

Donate for Research

Dental research created a profession. In the early decades of the last century, investments in dental research moved a trade to a profession. From the fluoridation of public water supplies – a crowning public health achievement of the 20th Century – to high-speed handpieces, dental composites and ceramic restorations, periodontal diagnostics and therapeutics, and more biologic approaches to replacing lost tissues, it was the investments in dental research that defined us as a profession.

January 13 Deadline to Apply for the NIH Medical Research Scholars Program
January 13, 2017, is the application deadline for the next National Institutes of Health (NIH) Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP). The MRSP is a yearlong research training program designed to attract creative, research-oriented dental, medical and veterinary students to the NIH intramural campus in Bethesda, Maryland. AADR has renewed its commitment to the program and will co-sponsor the program through a $75,000 donation to the Foundation for the NIH.

New Funding Opportunity Now Available From the NIH Common Fund Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory Program
The Health Care Systems (HCS) Research Collaboratory is working to strengthen the national capacity to implement cost-effective large-scale research studies – called pragmatic clinical trials – that engage health care delivery organizations as research partners. The Collaboratory currently supports a series of pragmatic clinical trial demonstration projects to gather best practices for the design, implementation, and dissemination of pragmatic clinical trials within healthcare systems.

S2S Loan Repayment Program
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Students to Service Loan Repayment Program (S2S LRP) provides up to $120,000 to medical (M.D. and D.O.) or dental (D.D.S. or D.M.D.) students in their final year of school in return for a commitment to provide primary health care full time for at least three years at an approved NHSC site in a Health Professional Shortage Area of greatest need.
