IADR/AADR Steps to Assist Meeting Delegates Affected by U.S. Executive Order Signed on March 6, 2017
On March 6, 2017 President Trump signed an executive order entitled, “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States.” The previous Executive Order 13769 signed on January 27, 2017 is effectively replaced with this order. The new Executive Order is effective at 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on March 16, 2017.

AADR FNIDCR Advocacy Day Recap
On February 28, 2017, deans, researchers, students and patients from throughout the country participated in the 2017 AADR and Friends of NIDCR Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. The purpose of the advocacy day was to persuade Congress to increase funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). Central to this advocacy day was the inclusion of the voice of patient advocates, combined with a robust participation of students, researchers, professors and deans from dental schools.

The Health Care Systems (HCS) Research Collaboratory is working to strengthen the national capacity to implement cost-effective large-scale research studies – called pragmatic clinical trials – that engage health care delivery organizations as research partners. Chunlin Qin
, D.D.S., Ph.D. is a tenured professor and vice chair in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry, Dallas. He earned his master’s degree and D.D.S. at Harbin Medical University School of Dentistry, China; and his Ph.D. from Okayama University Graduate School of Dentistry, Japan. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch, USA.

Texas A&M College of Dentistry Announces Thomas Diekwisch as the Gottlieb Chair
A craniofacial medicine symposium on February 20, 2017, highlighted Texas A&M College of Dentistry’s announcement of its new $1 million Bernhard Gottlieb Endowed Chair in Craniofacial Research and the chair’s first holder, AADR member Thomas Diekwisch. Diekwisch also directs the Center for Craniofacial Research and Diagnosis and heads the department of periodontics.
