The Medicare market is exploding as baby boomers begin turning 65. What's more, the peak of the boom won't be Medicare-eligible for another 15 years. Responding to the needs of this group early will certainly pay off for Medicare marketers. Now is the time to gather data, plan, develop, execute, and analyze new marketing strategies in order to reap the benefits as the market matures.
Medicare marketers have an opportunity to create a strategic advantage by providing helpful information to people who are about to become eligible for Medicare. This article discusses a survey of Medicare prospects by The Hacker Group, created to determine whether the Baby Boomer target market was well informed about Medicare coverage. The survey showed that more than 83 percent of the 64-year-olds surveyed do not feel they have the information they need to make good choices about Medicare coverage.
Only 11.2 percent of those surveyed had received any information from the government about Medicare. Private Medicare providers will need to provide more information before they can begin to help the next generation of Medicare recipients.
