A Message From the President
Michael E. Crane, Director/Assistant General Counsel, Capital One
My time as President of the Chapter is swiftly drawing to a close, and it seems an appropriate time to give thanks. I don’t know if everyone is aware of the amount of personal time our committee chairs and Board members give to help the chapter run smoothly, but it can be a considerable sacrifice, particularly for those who have families and other obligations outside of work and ACC.
That said, I couldn’t have made it through this year without the efforts of our officers - Anne Bancroft, Pete Prinsen, Jackie Meredith-Batchelor, Dan Slawe, Mike Eckhardt, and Kevin Chu. Luckily, all of these folks are stepping up a level in 2018 (with Anne taking over as President), and I can tell you that the Chapter’s going to be the better for it – this is truly a talented bunch and, maybe more importantly, they’re all good people.
I’d also like to thank our outgoing board members – Kevin Dunleavy, Kim Jessum, Caroline Manogue, and Aileen Schwartz. In addition to helping oversee the Chapter, they all chaired committees and ran events, and we couldn’t have run the Chapter without them – and luckily for us, most of them will continue to lead the Chapter in various roles. Similarly, I should also thank Lisa Fleischer, Sadeq Khan and Shahrzad Kojouri, who all also rolled off the 2017 Board; Sadeq and Shaz (who were serving partial terms) are continuing as Board members and Lisa is becoming an Officer, so their leadership terms are really just beginning.
Finally, saving the best for last, I need to thank our Chapter Administrator, Chris Stewart, and our Assistant Chapter Administrator, Joanne Ray, who help keep the Chapter running on a day-to-day basis – and, for many of you, are your primary personal contacts with the Chapter.
In the interest of time, I’m unfortunately omitting many people here – including all our other Board members, our committee chairs, and our Past Presidents (many of whom volunteered their time with the Chapter this year). I know I’m stealing a metaphor here, but it takes a village to run this Chapter!
And of course, I need to thank you. If you’re reading this, you’re not just a Chapter member, you’re someone who’s engaged (or thinking about getting engaged) with the Chapter. Our Chapter is only as strong as our membership and our membership engagement, so as always, I encourage you to get and stay involved. If you don’t know how to get involved, please feel free to reach out to me at any time; I may be leaving the Presidency, but I’m not leaving the Chapter behind!
Thanks again – and my best wishes for you and your family during this holiday season!
Mike Crane, President
