President's Letter

Alaska Healthcare Executives,

It's a great time to be a member of ACHE and AHEN! With the upcoming changes in healthcare from the Affordable Care Act and ICD-10 mandates in 2014, education, networking and keeping up with current events could not be more important. The 2014 AHEN officers, directors, committee chairs and Regent are committed in providing timely and relevant education opportunities for our Alaska members. Be on the lookout for webinar and meeting announcements as we get ready for the new year.

The 2014 ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership will be held 24-27 March in Chicago, IL at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. This is a great opportunity to network with colleagues from around the country and attend some excellent educational sessions. You can register online You can also follow the Congress on Facebook.

November was indeed a busy month for the chapter as we elected new officers for 2014:

President - Bill Sorrells

President Elect - Gavin Carmichael

Secretary/Treasurer - Stephen Williams

The officers and directors will be meeting later this month for a 2014 workgroup kickoff meeting as we put together an exciting educational plan for our Alaska membership. Thanks to everyone who participated in the educational needs assessment that will shape our educational sessions for the new year. Your opinion matters so please let a board member know if there is a particular topic you'd like to see in 2014, especially for our Face-to-Face sessions in the late summer.

Freezing rain and poor road conditions didn't dampen the spirit for those who attended our 22 Nov 2013 AHEN social networking event. It was a great time meeting some members for the first time and the food was fantastic! We had folks form Fairbanks, Anchorage and Emmonak, Alaska! Expect to see invitations in 2014 for more social/networking events.

As always, you're involvement in our chapter is what makes us successful. Being the leader in Alaska for providing education to our healthcare executives is our vision. With the quickly changing landscape resulting from the Affordable Care Act, it's clear being aware and attending education opportunities is important and sharing your experience and best practices will help all our members be successful.

Happy holidays and hope to see you all soon!

Bill Sorrells, MBA, FACHE, PMP
President, AHEN
