AHEN President's Letter & 2016 Election Results
by Cynthia Greiner Holmes, MAM, PhD Candidate

As 2015 comes to a close and we look forward to 2016, there is time for reflection on where we have been and time to make plans in pursuit of where we want to be. In 2015, we saw and experienced changes in our healthcare system in the United States and in Alaska. These changes have challenged us and continue to challenge us to become better leaders, better healthcare executives . . . and better we are becoming through our networking in ACHE and AHEN and our support of one another.

Within our great state, AHEN has also embraced the challenge of becoming better. Our new Education Chair, Heather Carter, and Board Member, Colin Underwood, are developing an awesome line-up of education events for you, our members, in 2016. To help Heather, Colin, our Board Members and me make 2016 the best year ever for these events, please take just a moment to respond to the survey that will be coming your way shortly. Sixty seconds of your time now will reap much benefits throughout the coming year!

In addition to our AHEN webinars, the Board and I are evaluating the logistics of offering regional education events. We recognize that it can be a challenge for those living outside Anchorage to fly to Anchorage at times. We are embracing that challenge by bringing events to locations outside Anchorage in 2016. If you would like us to consider an event in your area, drop us a line and we will do our best to make your request a reality.

Our pursuit of the best education events ever in 2016 would not be complete without coordinating an event with ASHNHA in the Fall. That’s right! We will again be offering a major education event in conjunction with the ASHNHA conference in August/September. We are excited about joining forces with ASHNHA once more in bringing together healthcare professionals from around our great State. Hope to see you there!

Finally, I would like to introduce you to our new and existing AHEN officers and directors. This awesome team of individuals includes: Jay Gandy, President-Elect; Jane Russell, Secretary/Treasurer; Colin Underwood, John Laux and Stephen Williams, Directors; and Heather Carter, Education Chair. In 2016, if you would like to join this awesome team on an incredibly exciting journey, send me an email/give me a call. I will be delighted to make your request a reality! J

So, as we say good-bye to 2015 and hello to 2016, I hope all of you and your families had wonderful holidays during the month of December and I wish all of you a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2016.

I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you a little bit better in the coming year. I hope to hear from you. You and your thoughts/ideas are important to me as we move toward and through the most wonderful year yet for AHEN and its members.

Best regards,
