Message from Your ACHE Regent - Fall 2018

I trust this message finds you all well as we all deal with the onset of winter weather and the holiday seasons approaching.

This past fall, I presented the Annual Regent’s Award to Rakesh Calton, MD, FACHE at the Vancouver Cluster in Vancouver, BC.   Dr. Calton is a physician executive and has been an active Board member for years, serving in various capacities.  His nomination was strongly supported by members of ACHE.  Congratulations Rakesh!

Chapter elections are currently occurring in many provinces across our country.  Consider completing a brief on your thoughts and perspective about being on our ACHE Canadian Board, and proceed to send your information to myself at dswerhone@gmail.com.   This is a great opportunity to be a part of the Canadian Chapter Board.  All applications are welcome and are due by Friday, December 14, 2018

As many of you know, ACHE has held its dues steady since 2004.  With inflation spiking at 36% over the years, the Board decided to approve a modest dues increase effective January, 2019.  ACHE wants to continue to expand services, while personalizing the experience with all the members.  ACHE provides very good educational opportunities and networking, publications, career resources, and events through the local chapter and in North America.  This increase in dues will not affect students, faculty, life or retired members.  More information on this can be found on the ACHE website.

The start of any new year is a good time to visit the ACHE National website at www.ache.org  to make sure that all your educational credentials are up to date as well as your email address, as this is the primary way we communicate news and upcoming events.

Upcoming opportunities to consider in 2019:

Chapter ABM is occurring via teleconference across the country. Notices to all members are going out per email. Also check our Chapter website for details.

March 4-7, 2019 is the Congress on Healthcare Leadership occurring in Chicago at the Hilton Chicago/Palmer House Hilton Hotel.  I hope to see many of you there.  Congress is a great opportunity to network, take in some great education, and camaraderie opportunities like the Canadian Chapter dinner on Monday, March 4, 2019, at 6:30 pm.  This event will be advertised on the website for exact location.

To reduce the barriers to educational programming for ACHE members experiencing economic hardship, ACHE has established the Tuition Waiver Program.  ACHE makes available a limited number of tuition waivers available to members and Fellows whose organizations lack the resources to fund their tuition for many different educational programs.  All requests are due no less than eight weeks before the program date, with notification to the individual not less than six weeks before the program date.  Go to ache.org/Tuitionwaiver.

Consider giving back to your profession with a donation to the Foundation of ACHE Fund for Healthcare Leadership.  Your contribution helps the next generation of leaders by providing scholarships, education and resources needed to make an impact on the future of healthcare.  Consider donating to the Fund at ache.org/Fund

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support to our chapter and in making this past year one of growth. I look forward to continue improving and evolving our chapter offerings to meet the needs of our membership from all coasts in Canada.  It is my pleasure and honour to serve as your Regent.  I can be reached at dswerhone@gmail.com.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

With enthusiasm,

Danielle Swerhone, RN, BN, MHSA, OHNC, FACHE, FCCHL
Regent for Canada
