Message from the President - Spring 2014

Welcome to the Central Florida Chapter of ACHE! We are a chapter taking 2014 by storm, with much to be excited about! First, we have maintained a close watch and diligent march towards our 2015 Vision of Driving Awareness, Maintaining Vitality, and Increasing Visibility, which is evident by these three elements: expanded programs, growing membership, and award winning performance. Our Board of Directors is clearly guiding the way to provide chapter value to all professional and student members!

Our first 2014 program was held on February 20th at Health Central Hospital in Orlando with one of our platinum sponsors, Tactical Management, making it possible. The event was titled, “Social Media and Mobile Health: The Good, the Mad, and the Ugly”. There were three knowledgeable panelists and one finely-tuned moderator, who together outlined a game plan of strategies to leverage the growing digital platforms of today. Their consuming and common mission to further build stronger relationships with the community and our patients was very apparent. Some of the most common social channels for healthcare were discussed, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Tip, Google, Instagram, Pinterest, and Wikipedia. These media channels are different and appeal to diverse audiences; so the panelists explained a social media game plan with the following seven elements: 1.) Have a purpose and align your goals to the right channels; 2.) Determine engaging you should be based on your goals; 3.) Determine how you will encourage participation from your audience; 4.) Make a plan to manage your channels with a commitment to time, resources, and financial means; 5.) Understand your demographics – know your customer; 6.) Decide how social media can strengthen your brand, and 7.) Decide how you will measure your plan’s success.

The event was a success with over 80 participants and is one of (11) eleven events planned for 2014 – refer to our website for more details. Our journey towards chapter value leads from programs to membership.

In Membership, our chapter has been highly favored with the highest retention rate in the last three (3) years at 94% and with nearly 500 members across our 6-county region; we are strong and a formidable group of professionals. From expanding programs to a growing membership, our chapter value now has an award winning performance to recognize.

To our surprise, on February 14th, ACHE President and CEO, Deborah J. Bowen, FACHE, CAE sent official congratulations to the 2013 ACHECF leadership team for earning ACHE’s Award of Chapter Merit by achieving (and exceeding) membership growth of 12% based on a ACHE goal of 4%. She shared, “achieving this award is a great accomplishment and solid evidence of hard work…”

Many thanks to last year’s Board of Directors for their hard work, dedication to ACHE values and commitment to the community – frankly, they set the bar high for 2014. By the way, as a point of chapter history, this award has only been achieved twice since the chapter’s inception over 10 years ago, once in 2011 and now in 2013.

Therefore, with a lot going on and more to come, my desire to continue our diligent march towards our 2015 Vision of Driving Awareness, Maintaining Vitality, and Increasing Visibility is in full swing. I continue to witness the impressive evidence this year, and based on the February 20th program, the 2014 Board of Directors is equally engaged and already started out on a journey to that even higher bar – is that possible?

Come join us in April at either of these next ACHECF events, our first Local Program Council (LPC) event in Lake County on April 3rd at 6:00pm and on April 9th at 5:00pm for the 10th Annual Symposium at UCF on “State of Healthcare in Florida” – more information at www.centralfl.ache.org
