Message from the President - Q1 2015

Colleagues,

I have had the pleasure of being involved with ACHE of Central Florida from the time I was a graduate student working to earn my master’s degree. Early on, I realized the importance of the ACHE organization, both at a national and local level. ACHE truly is your comprehensive organization for professional advancement and education, and plays this role with dignity and at a level unmatched by any other organization. As I began to realize the massive amount of published textbooks, administrative healthcare research, fellowship opportunities, career resources and fellowship support the organization provides, I knew I wanted to be an involved part of this organization. This year, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your president. I hope my combined experience in clinical, administrative, and research medicine will help drive our chapter towards continued success.

Your Central Florida chapter is growing in the Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia county areas. So much so that we have exceeded growth expectations the past two years at a rate that puts our chapter in the top 10% of the country for 2014 & 2015. We are now represented by over 550 healthcare executives in the Central Florida Region, with roughly 1/3 of these folks aligned organizationally at the Vice President or C-Suite level of senior executive leadership. The chapter is truly represented by some of the nation’s premier healthcare thought leaders, so let’s all make it a point to get involved this year.

This outstanding growth has led to national recognition from ACHE leadership. First and foremost, our chapter received a signed letter from Deborah Bowen, FACHE, President and CEO of ACHE, recognizing our Central Florida chapter as a recipient of ACHE’s Award of Chapter Distinction for performing in the top 10% in two of four award performance standards. This is the next step beyond the Award of Chapter Merit earned in 2014, and a level accomplished annually by very few chapters nationwide. This is a credit to all of the engaged members of our chapter who function as outstanding executive healthcare leaders.

Of equal importance, your Central Florida chapter was recently recognized as one of five chapters in the nation who received ACHE’s Award for Diversity and Inclusion in 2014. We are proud that ACHE of Central Florida is comprised of diverse leadership and is working to raise awareness towards cultural differences. By understanding these differences, and embracing one another's backgrounds, we become more effective leaders. Diversity awareness is a personal passion of mine and I will ensure the great work done by our 2014 Diversity Co-Chairs, Aurora Realin and Sheila Ortiz continues in the long term.

Finally, I am proud to announce that your Central Florida chapter was awarded ACHE’s Chapter Innovation Grant in January, for its accepted proposal to support the advancement of eligible fellows (FACHE). Strategically, we are offering comprehensive programming to support your credentialing achievement as one of our profession’s finest experts, culminating in your successful completion of the ACHE Board of Governor’s examination. Included within this support are scholarships for exam fees, books, online courses and rigorous personal training courses. Additionally, ACHECF will sustain its offerings of outstanding face-to-face and qualified education programs, touching on hot-button topics such as EHR Implementation, Triple Aim, and Bundled Payments to name a few. We will also expand our activities by providing opportunities to become involved as community volunteers through our organization in 2015.  There is no better time to become a fellow than in 2015!

I would be remiss without mentioning that we have individual chapter members who were recently recognized by ACHE for their outstanding work. Cami Leech Florio, FACHE was recognized as an outstanding senior leader and John Martin was recognized as an early career award winner. I look forward to meeting each of you as you become more involved in 2015, and look forward to highlighting your development in the future.

I hope to see you at the Congress on Healthcare Leadership, March 16-19. Keep an eye out for communication for how we will meet as a chapter while traveling. You can enhance your Congress experience by visiting ache.org/CongressApp. Stay connected locally through centralfl.ache.org or join the conversation on Linked In!

In Health,

Jake Kirchner, DPM, MHSA
Chapter President, ACHE of Central Florida
