Message from the President - Q3 2015

A friend who is a politician once taught me the term ‘Politics in the Dark,’ which in governmental leadership means hitting the floor without first getting up to speed on the day’s news. Healthcare leadership without understanding the context we practice in results in the same consequence. Just as in politics, we have a responsibility to be aware of the forces that push and pull our daily lives as leaders in the field of healthcare. We must understand these forces, and interpret the healthcare environment as public advocates for better care. If we do not make our voices heard, healthcare costs will continue to rise and access will be limited.

As healthcare administrators and leaders within our field, we bear an important responsibility as subject matter experts to be advocates for our community. This advocacy must span beyond lowering costs, improving quality, and fostering population health.

Thomas Dolan was a great advocate for diversity in healthcare during his time as President and CEO of ACHE. Our Central Florida chapter strives to be an extension of his vision. We are fortunate in Orlando’s diverse community to have representation from all walks of life. It is our job as a chapter to foster this diversity, leveraging the perspective of all of our members and drawing upon the unique experiences we bring to the practice of healthcare administration.

In Health,

Jake Kirchner, DPM, MHSA
Board Member, Chapter President, ACHE of Central Florida
