Message from the President - Q2-2016

We have all heard William Cowper’s famous line, “Variety is the spice of life,” and healthcare is a whole supermarket full of seasonings. I was recently reading an article on current trends in healthcare management published by Forbes online. As my mind kicked into gear to ponder the future of technology disruptors and innovators, cybersecurity, increased community-based and retail care utilization, I was reminded of how exciting it is to work in executive healthcare. Working in teams to tackle the challenges of today and equipping our future generations to tackle the challenges of tomorrow is what it’s all about. As a healthcare professional, your day-to-day operational, finance, strategy and leadership responsibilities can be very time consuming. In addition, staying current can often be overwhelming in conjunction with the daily responsibilities of your role. However, when thinking long-term for yourself and your organization, balance in knowledge by staying current can be as important as life balance in your career. ACHE of Central Florida is a great community partner for guiding you towards enlightenment of current healthcare trends.

Recently, I began my journey towards credentialing as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Juggling all of the aforementioned challenges in a busy healthcare executive’s life can seem daunting, especially when you add in the responsibility of moving toward fellowship. A coordinated approach toward the fellowship process can make this task seem much more feasible. While you place such a high emphasis in your career as a management executive on the recognition of others, you owe it to yourself to achieve the personal recognition as a fellow if you have not already begun the journey. Take a moment to contact your references, refresh that resume, and gather up your study materials. I urge you to join me in preparation for earning your fellowship, and let’s have some fun along the way.

In Health,

Jake Kirchner, DPM, MHSA

Board Member, Chapter President, ACHE of Central Florida
