|Message from the President - Q1-2017|
As we approach the end of our first quarter of this 2017 year, much has been accomplished already by your local ACHE Central Florida Chapter
We started with a new President, Donald Trump, taking office and talk of yet another change to our nation’s Healthcare platform. Where that change actually ends is still to be determined. We also had our 2nd Annual FACHE Gala and Awards Presentation. What an incredibly successful event! The teamwork exhibited by the Gala Committee, led by Vic Rosenbaum, was nothing short of amazing. We surpassed the inaugural year in terms of sponsorship dollars and attendance and we are already looking forward to the 3rd Annual to be held in 2018. At this event, the new Board of Directors were installed and include the following officers:
Rick Smith, FACHE President
Fran DiFede President Elect
Kelley Lamb Treasurer
Frank Fiorito Secretary
Our local ACHECF chapter started its year by having the Annual Business and Strategic Planning meeting on January 27 hosted by Health Central Hospital. A great day with great attendance by our BOD, including the Past President Jake Kirchner and our Regent Don Henderson. We heard a very enlightening update from Michelle Strenth on the most current updates coming out of Tallahassee related to Florida Healthcare issues. Again……change is likely on the way.
We continued our string of successful events with the first ACHECF face to face Educational event titled “Ensuring Your Community’s Emergency Preparedness”. This event drew nearly 60 members and guests to Health Central Hospital to hear first-hand from those affected by Hurricane Matthew back in October 2016. While many of us train to deal with inclement weather and the threat of forced Evacuation, not many of us ( fortunately) have ever had to experience this exercise in a real life scenario. We also heard from others regarding the preparation and more importantly the lessons learned from the tragedy of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. This night’s educational session served as a reminder to us all that constant preparation and repeated training drills should be a part of every Administrator’s calendar.
And speaking of Educational opportunities, Donny Abraham, Programs Committee Chair has put together a fantastic calendar for the members and guests in our area. We heard from several members in the past that the programs were the same year to year. To that end, the BOD has changed the selection of programs to include many NEW topics this year. Again, change is not always bad. The Central Florida Chapter is again offering 16 events this year including 8 F2F offerings to assist in completing those valuable credits used towards Fellow Certification or re-certification.
Finally, I would be remiss not to say how honored I am to serve as your President this year. Following in the path that has been set by recent Past Presidents, I commit to you that I will constantly strive to grow membership, facilitate the advancement of members to Fellows and enhance the member experience. With your help, all these things are achievable even in the sea of change that we face in this crazy world we call Healthcare.
Remember, the only thing Constant in Healthcare is CHANGE.
See you at a meeting soon,
Rick E.Smith, FACHE
