President's Message

Chapter Members, Supporters and Partners,

I trust this message finds you all healthy and happy. This new COVID environment has many of us taking actions we would not have contemplated only four months ago. We find ourselves social distancing in almost every setting and wearing our face masks routinely.  While at Publix earlier this week, I found myself doing the ‘moon-walk’ to back-up as I was traveling against the directional arrow on the floor. A few minutes later, we had a shopping cart traffic-jam as six customers with shopping carts converged in front of the dairy cooler which had a display case in the center of the aisle. It took us several seconds to resolve our shopping cart traffic jam as we politely yielded to others while applying the “6-foot rule”. Now, as COVID-19 cases reemerge and the number of admissions increase, our organizations have the double-threat of increased COVID patient management along with team members who have either been diagnosed with the virus or were exposed and are now self-isolating. We all must remain vigilant to safeguard ourselves, family members, friends, and team members. Let’s not let our guard down.

ACHE ‘national’ leadership has been working on a “Virtual Face-to-Face” strategy. That basic strategy encompasses National Virtual Programs, Virtual Choice Programs and Chapter Programs. The framework for these levels of F2F offerings is scheduled to be completed by 6/30/2020. During July, ACHE National will create a virtual course schedule, create course materials, update websites reflecting those course offerings, build Chapter-specific templates, and build suggested Chapter messaging.

From the Chapter’s perspective, we recently held a Board meeting where we discussed and agreed that, for the remainder of 2020, we’ll plan, produce and offer ‘virtual’ events. If, by chance, we’re able to get beyond COVID before the end of the year, we’ll consider offering a planned virtual event in a ‘hybrid’ form (i.e. physically attended with a ‘virtual’ component) allowing participants to choose. With this, we have many exciting events planned for the remainder of 2020 for the chapter and the Local Program Committees (LPCs) which include the Board of Governors Exam Prep Course, virtual networking events and many other amazing offerings as shown in this newsletter and on the ACHE-CF website at achecf.org.

Please be safe this Summer!

Best Regards,

Daniel C. Honerbrink, FACHE, FHFMA, MSIR, MHA
