Message from the President - Q4-2017

As 2018 begins, I reflect on the past year with great pride. The great works being done by your local Central Florida ACHE Chapter continues.

In keeping with the established trend of informative and interesting events, the Programs Committee, led by Donny Abraham, RN, FACHE, continues to deliver. This quarter we heard from expert panelists on the topics of Population Health, Managing you Clinical Supply Chain, Healthcare’s Role in Formulating Public Policy and Optimizing Patient Throughput. We also had some special events like meet the CEO at Central Florida Regional Medical Center in Sanford. Wendy Brandon, CEO, and her team were very gracious in hosting us for this event. We also had our Annual FHA / ACHE business meeting and dinner in conjunction with the Florida Hospital Association annual meeting. Our Regent, Don Henderson presented awards to several of our Chapter’s leaders for Recognition of their service to the chapter. Those recognized were: Sara Yepes, Early Careerist award, Shannon Elswick, FACHE, Senior Careerist award, and Rick Smith, FACHE received the Regents Award. During the FHA Annual meeting, your Central Florida Chapter also co-sponsored a Board of Governors Exam review course for those preparing for the Fellow exam. Over 40 members participated and we now anxiously await the members to sit for the exam. Congratulations and Good Luck to all.

Your Central Florida chapter continues to enjoy great success with attendance at every event. With that success, we have been fortunate enough to “give back” to several organizations and help those less fortunate. The chapter made a donation this year to Big Brothers / Big Sisters of backpacks, notebooks and other school supplies for over 30 needy children. We are also participating in our 2nd annual Baby DJ donation this year during the Holidays. The Board of Directors will be donating Christmas Gifts to those less fortunate through this program. Another example of how we as Healthcare leaders can “give back” to those in our communities.

I would encourage you to mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual CF-ACHE Gala and awards event. This year’s event will take place at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld located at 6677 Sea Harbor Drive, Orlando, FL 32821. The 2018 Gala theme is Healthcare Through the Decades: Past, Present, and Future. During the event, we will highlight several organizations and their innovations to healthcare. There are 5 awards presented at the Gala: Distinguished FACHE Service Award, Gift of Life Champion, Diversity and Inclusion, President’s Award and Innovation Award. We hope you will make plans to attend. A registration link can be found on the CF-ACHE website at
