A Message from Our President
Gary Havican, MBA, FACHE

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year everyone,

I hope that everyone has enjoyed a great holiday with family and friends and I also hope that you’re excited for the new year.  For the Connecticut Chapter of ACHE, we are celebrating the successes from 2016 and are anxious to begin a new year filled with activity that will only benefit its members and the healthcare community.  Last year was a year of “Firsts”:  We had our first dinner cruise at congress; we had our first golf tournament; we hosted our first former Secretary of HHS (Dr. Don Berwick) as a keynote speaker during our annual meeting; we hosted our first mentor/mentee orientation session for our newly revised comprehensive program; we developed our first “CTAHE Road Show”, bringing active chapter members to leadership meetings in healthcare institutions to talk about CTAHE and its benefits; we held our first networking event at a local brewery owned by one of our members; we developed our first monthly calendar distributed to all members; and we just recently held our first volunteer leader recognition event to celebrate the hard work of our committee chairs and board members.  Due to our many “Firsts” we have seen the results of our efforts pay off.  We are recognized for the number of chapter sponsored events, we’ve seen a precipitous increase in net membership growth, we’ve seen a stabilization and a growth in our chapter member retention rates and we’ve seen an uptick in the number of chapter members seeking fellowship status.  We’ve also noticed that the membership perception regarding chapter communication and access to events has increased and overall have achieved favorable results across most of our chapter growth areas.

2017 will continue the successful growth of our chapter.  We will also continue with our trend of chapter “Firsts”.  This year, for the first time, we will privately host our own chapter web site with a new content management system guaranteed to be an additional resource for our members, we will roll out the first comprehensive CTAHE chapter manual which will help organize and build the infrastructure of our chapter, we will complete a pilot and implement “Chapter Link” which is a dynamic resource for chapters and its membership and finally, we will continue to be the “First” Chapter on the mind of all ACHE chapters nationwide by achieving the award of chapter excellence!  All of these “Firsts” are intertwined with our existing events, programs, outings, seminars, meetings and activities..

Finally, I just want to close where I began and wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year!  We are lucky to have such an incredible team of healthcare leaders in this state and will continue, with your help, to be a trendsetter and a leader amongst many across the country!

Best Regards,

Gary Havican, MBA, FACHE
