Chapter Breakfast - August, 14, 2014

The Hawaii-Pacific Chapter of ACHE hosted our annual breakfast event at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel for 1.5 qualified education credits on August 14.  Ms. Diana Smalley, regional president of Mercy, Oklahoma and Immediate Past Chairman of ACHE presented a very motivational talk on her experiences in healthcare leadership entitled, "For the Love of Healthcare."  In addition, Diana graciously gave a special presentation via WebEx session to the Guam Chapter the day prior.

Hawai'i Program Cluster Event

September 15 marked the first day of the Hawai'i Program Cluster event held at the Hyatt Regency, Waikiki.  The event spanned 4 days between September 15 - 18 and provided a total of 24 qualified face-to-face educational credits for many members pursuing their FACHE credential.  The event was successful in providing a very rare and valuable educational and credentialling opportunity for aspiring FACHE candidates.

There were 2 educational sessions offered for the program:

  • Comprehensive Leadership for Senior Level Executives by Tom Atchison, EdD
Tom presented a comprehensive overview of leadership principles, talking on topics such as time management and leading effective meetings, physician leadership and partnership with physicians, payor relationships, and the overall importance of adapting leadership to the recent industry shift into quality reimbursement.
  • Integration vs. Competition:  The Future of Hospital-Physician Relations by Daniel K. Zismer, PhD
Daniel touched on some very useful data-driven methods of analyzing hospital performance given the shift into quality reimbursement, clinical industry and payor shifts, and the continuing need to merge and develop new service lines.  Daniel touched on the complexities of primary care, inpatient, and outpatient interactions with emphasis on the hospital physician relationship, providing some useful analytical measurement techniques.

The event was a highly successful and smooth event, packed with educational content and attended by healthcare leaders from around the globe.  It was a great time for networking amongst professionals and learning.  Attendees earned 24 credits (12 credits per session).

Future events

A face-to-face panel is being offered in November and will be focused on Diversity in Healthcare.  This will be a valuable opportunity for ACHE members to network and obtain face-to-face educational credits.  There is also a Leadership Conference in Rosemont, IL September 29-30.
