It is hard to believe that it is time to sit down to write the President’s message for the fall newsletter as it seems like I just wrote the summer one! How time does fly. It certainly has been a busy time during the summer months with our usual high paced environments coupled with the number of tropical storms and hurricanes that have threatened our state, all certainly adding to our busyness. I trust that you all were able to manage through the impacts that the storms did have on our islands. I also hope too that you were able to enjoy the summer whether travelling or just enjoying some R&R.
While summer has come and gone, the ACHE Chapter and Board continues their dedication and commitment to the organization and to you our members. On July 27, 2016 we held our annual ACHE Membership breakfast at the Hawai‘i Prince Hotel. Our event always precedes the Annual Meeting of the Healthcare Association of Hawai‘I, which too was held at the Hawai‘i Prince and so we were fortunate this year to host as our guest speaker Mr. George Greene, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Healthcare Association of Hawai‘i (HAH). The breakfast was very well attended by ACHE members, with some great networking opportunities amongst colleagues and the presentation of Regent awards by Jen Chahanovich. Our speaker, Mr. Greene, then provided several highlights of the past legislative session along with the status of the bills that were both supported and opposed by the Healthcare Association. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session and it was quite evident, based upon the number of great questions, that we have a very engaged membership who are interested in the legislative process. I believe we all walked away from the presentation with a deeper appreciation of how complex the legislative process can be, as well as, a gratefulness for the Healthcare Association and for all of the time and work effort that they put in to ensure that we as an industry are well represented in this legislative process. We all appreciate Mr. Greene’s time and presentation and for his recognition of the value of our ACHE organization. A special thank-you to the team that pulled this great event together!
As we move into the fall months there are lots of opportunities for our members. We have another social mixer coming up on October 4th. This event is meant to encourage networking amongst our members in an informal setting and to talk story. Please plan to attend and RSVP soon. Additionally our conference, in partnership with the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is coming up November 9th and 10th. The conference, Leadership in Action, Partnering for Success is sure to be a great one with many excellent speakers lined up over the two days. We are very happy to partner with the AONE in providing this conference as this demonstrates a commitment from both of our professional organizations to our members and to our community of health care leaders. I truly hope that you all take advantage of this great educational opportunity. Please find more information on the conference and the social throughout this newsletter and also more information can found at our Chapter’s Website at http://hawaii.achechapter.org/
Finally, I would like to once again acknowledge our hard working and committed board and committee members. Our chapter is active! This is not only evidenced through the many events that are highlighted but also in what we have seen in the membership activity. We have had 31 new members join ACHE so far this year, we have had 5 Fellows recertify, and we have had 5 members become new Fellows. Congratulations to you all! This truly is fantastic and noteworthy…. all while at the same time keeping an eye on those numerous tropical storms and hurricanes surrounding our island state!
I look forward to seeing you all in the upcoming months.
