I wanted to thank all the members and guests that attended our annual breakfast on July 27th.  Our guest speaker was George Greene, President & CEO of the Healthcare Association of Hawai‘i.  George gave an excellent overview of the 2016 State Legislative Session and ended with trends, challenges and opportunities that we face going forward.

It is hard to believe that it is time to sit down to write the President’s message for the fall newsletter as it seems like I just wrote the summer one!  How time does fly.  It certainly has been a busy time during the summer months with our usual high paced environments coupled with the number of tropical storms and hurricanes that have threatened our state, all certainly adding to our busyness.  Read more

Perhaps never before has the need for successful partnership between administration and physicians been more important than during the great age of healthcare transformation. Since 1910, when the Flexner report was published, government regulation of healthcare has expanded exponentially.  Physicians who traditionally spent nearly all their time caring for patients now need to give equal weight to satisfying compliance requirements, meaningful use, PQRS, preauthorizations, quality metrics, HCC coding, patient experience, and a plethora of other metrics coming soon to a computer near you.

When Richard and I discussed a theme for this quarter's newsletter, I certainly wanted to focus on perhaps our most important and beneficial event which defines our chapter and the great work we are doing:  the 2016 Annual AONE Conference.  We felt it appropriate to match the theme of  that conference, which is "Leadership in Action:  Partnering for Success."
