Hawaii-Pacific Chapter of ACHE Meet & Greet
The Hawaii Pacific Chapter of ACHE held a meet and greet event on June 2, 2015 at the First Insurance building in downtown Honolulu. Of the approximately 30 members and guests present, there were many familiar faces but also a number of new faces to welcome. Attendance at Meet & Greet events is not only beneficial for general networking, learning what volunteer opportunities exist and how each member can contribute to the organization, but also the benefits and opportunities available to each ACHE member.
Special guest speaker at the Meet & Greet was Brigadier General Patrick Sargent, the Commanding General of the Army Pacific Regional Medical Command. His presentation was entitled "How ACHE Can Help You Become a Senior Leader and Better Healthcare Administrator." He began his conversation on how ACHE has benefited him in his various leadership roles within the Army Medical Command. As he progressed in his career, what he learned as a member and fellow of ACHE provided him a framework by which to ask challenging questions to both staff of the organizations he has led and to other leaders with whom he has worked. ACHE provides opportunities to foster the relationships that make the entirety of the U.S. health care system better. He encouraged those present to capitalize on the resources that are available, including such tools as the ACHE leadership assessment. Finally, he challenged each member present to be engaged in the organization and look at the groups and committees where they might fit.
