President's Message
Dave Engel, FACHE

As we approach the Christmas and New Year holiday seasons we have much to reflect upon this past year. One of your Kansas Chapter’s greatest accomplishments was the creation of the Kansas City Local Program Council in conjunction with the Missouri Chapter. The Kansas Chapter has hosted two programs via this collaboration. Thanks to all of those involved over several years to make this a reality.

This past fall with all of the political posturing in Washington DC, it was unclear what our healthcare industry would become. I know for myself, I could have written a book with the numerous articles I had submitted to my elected officials. Seems we are once again approaching a similar environment as many issues remain to be unresolved by the end of December and into early 2014. I would gather many of you have done the same and have once again engaged into another writing campaign to protect our missions. Enough on politics, hopefully our legislators can learn from our history and develop a sound government. Only time will tell.

Since my last article, I received the Kansas Chapter’s 2013 membership report. As per the 41.8% of KACHE members that responded, a KAHCE SATISFACTION median score of 8 (out of 10) was reported. 94.4% of those surveyed were satisfied or very satisfied with the educational events offered this past year. This is 10% above the ACHE national benchmark. Much of this credit goes to Rod Corn and the education committee.

In wrapping up my last message to you as the 2013 Chapter President, I am excited for the direction our 2014 Chapter President Heather Fuller will be leading this fine organization. If it has been some time since you have been involved with the Kansas Chapter and would like to get involved, please feel free to contact myself or anyone on the Chapter leadership team.

Best regards and Happy New Year
