From the Desk of the KAHCE President
Marion "Tony" Thompson, FACHE

We just completed our KAHCE Annual Meeting and Fall Education event held in Wichita on September 4. This was a great opportunity to participate in educational offerings and learn about Evidenced Base Design, and Behavior Change and Patient Engagement Through Technology. Our Education Committee Chair Lauren Liguore and her committee should be recognized for their outstanding accomplishment. Thank you Lauren! Bob Bregant, Sponsorship Committee Chair, and his committee found great support for the event, which allows us to keep our education event fees low and support our organization’s goals. Thank you, Bob!

During the lunch hour we had our Annual Meeting. Wes Hoyt was recognized for the Senior Executive Award and Trenton Stringer was recognized for the Early Careerist Award. Our Fall conference was scheduled in conjunction with the KHA Annual Meeting, and we had a booth at the trade show. It was a great opportunity for board members who manned the booth to talk to current and potential members. This year we held a drawing for a certificate for $250 towards any KAHCE or ACHE event.

Our next KCLPC educational event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2019 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm., at St. Joseph Medical Center, 1000 Carondelet Dr., Alex George Auditorium, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. ACHE Face-to-Face credits (1.5) will be offered. Guest speaker for the session will be Richard Priore, ScD, FACHE. Dr. Priore is President/CEO, Excelsior HealthCare Group, St. Paul, Minn., an outcomes-driven healthcare management consulting firm specializing in the assessment, execution and speed of measurable results in improving organizational performance. Dr. Priore is also a senior research fellow for the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health focused on assisting leaders as they measure physician alignment and to pursue evidence-based, best practice alignment approaches with their medical staff. He's served as the CEO for several investor-owned hospitals and as a hospital turnaround expert and managing director for the Hunter Group.

Dr. Priore’s lecture is titled “Direct Contracting with Employer Groups: What Health Systems Should Know.”  The event is being sponsored by the Kansas Association of Health Care Executives. Registration for the event at http://www.cvent.com/events/mo-ache-kcmhc-october-10-2019-meeting/event-summary-55527545d37e4a138cb571e0508a7239.aspx

A notice for Board Member Elections is in this newletter, and we will continue our online/e-mail voting process. Please take the time to review the candidate list, vote, and support your KAHCE board in its activities in 2020.

The KAHCE Board Annual Retreat is planned for November 1 at the KHA offices in Topeka. During this meeting, we will review our accomplishments and opportunities from 2019 and plan for 2020. This will include a review of the Chapter Member Needs survey, where we use your feedback to help improve the benefits your chapter provides to its members. If you have any suggestions for changes you would like to see, please contact me at marion.tony.thompson@gmail.com or call at 870.613.6609.
