New University of Louisville Healthcare Leadership program graduates

The University of Louisville awarded bachelor degrees to five healthcare leadership students at the end of the Fall 2018 semester. These students completed the new online, competency-based education (CBE) program for adult learners in the healthcare industry seeking to complete their undergraduate education. The program provides enrolled students the opportunity to earn up to 48 college credit hours from their industry-provided training and development through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). Additionally, students are provided flexible year-round enrollment and course completion choices through the “Flex Pace” version of the program; alternatively, students may enroll in regular “Set Pace” eight-week terms.

Ryan Hoskins, Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., completed the program within 22 months of his first enrollment while Hailey Shepherd, Baptist Health Medical Group, earned her bachelor’s degree in 25 months. Other 2018 graduates include Joanna McChristian, Kathryn Pass, and Dallas Nichols. The program achieved its first graduate, Rachel McClain, Humana, Inc., in Fall 2017 after just one year of program enrollments. The range of time to graduate for the program’s first six graduates ranged from 11 to 25 months.

The Healthcare Leadership program was developed based on the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) competency model to address workforce development demands from healthcare organizations in Kentucky and across the region.
