Summer’s over and it’s BACK to SCHOOL!
We have a tremendous program coming up on OCTOBER 11 for the MAHCE ALL DAY Educational Session. The Program Committee under the capable leadership of Megha Kachalia has developed the topic of “Innovation in Health Care” into 4 panels, which will total 6.0 face to face hours for the purpose of recertification. Best of all this conference is offered at the same, LOW, LOW price of $199 for ACHE members and Fellows and $50 for students.
MAHCE has actually had a fairly active August with a very special chapter meeting on August 2 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. We learned about the difficulties of the transgender population in terms of receiving services for basic healthcare as well as very advanced gender affirming surgeries. We had almost 200 registrants for this FREE meeting which was sponsored by the Foundation for Advancement of Education in the Sciences – FAES - (based at NIH) and the NIH. This culminated in almost 2 years of planning by Christina Farias, MAHCE Director of Operations and Executive Director of FAES to have a meeting at the NIH campus. Traffic, bad weather (very rainy) and security checkpoints notwithstanding, it was a GREAT evening for all and I hope it will be an annual or every other year event.
The Board met on August 9 and has approved scholarships for ACHE Congress in March, 2019. See elsewhere in this newsletter for information. The Board also welcome Tangee’ Pruitt of Children’s National Medical Center as the new Development Director, succeeding Ray Dudley who has served tirelessly in this role for the last 10 years.
Elsewhere in this newsletter is the Nominating Committee’s report on those interested in running for the Board for the 2019 -2020 two-year term. If any others have an interest in running for a Board position please contact Maryland ACHE Regent Alan Weisman, FACHE – email@example.com or me.
See you on October 11 at Sheppard Pratt’s Conference Center in Towson!
