President's Message
Scott Burleson, FACHE

It's been a very busy spring for ACHE, and we'll start with AWARDS!

At the ACHE Congress in late March, Alan Weisman, Regent for Maryland accepted ACHE's Chapter Merit Award on behalf of MAHCE. The award is presented for exceeding the standard for advancement to Fellow of eligible members, scoring 13.04% against the goal of 9.1%.

We credit this award to all the members of MAHCE who attended programs, directed operations and participated in any way over a number of years to make the Maryland chapter of ACHE one of the best. We also believe that much of our chapter member's success can be attributed to the MAHCE Board of Governors Exam Review course, revised, updated and nurtured over the years by Jody Goldsmith.

This year Jody, Alan, Randy, Neel, Greg, Toni, Christina and myself presented on May 3 & 4. We were fortunate to have Tina DiFranco, BSN, JD, Exec Dir, School of HHS, University of Baltimore present the LEGAL portion of the course for the 3rd year in a row. The Happy Hour after Day 1 was very well received and we had a chance to learn about some of the attendees from Southern Maryland, virtually every metro county of Baltimore-DC and Arlington, Falls Church, Portsmouth and Warrenton, Virginia. We had a great military representation with 12 attendees including US Army CPN Mike P. from Fairborn, Ohio who won the long-distance award.

Megha Kachalia of Medstar Health is the new Program Director succeeding Terri Palazzo who took a new position in North Carolina this winter.  Megha's team that is working on developing strong, quality programs for your continuing education and professional development and welcomes any volunteers to help develop the core purpose of our organization’s existence. If you are interested in getting involved please contact Megha: mkachalia2@gmail.com, 410-722-6671.

Operations Director Christina Farias facilitated a relationship with a new sponsor, welcoming The Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES). Established in 1959 by 11 NIH scientists to facilitate a collegial environment and provide educational and professional services for the scientific community.  Christina is the Executive Director of this organization and also serves as our very organized Operations Director for  2017-2018.  If you are interested in getting involved with assisting Christina, please contact her at christina.stamatelatos-farias@nih.gov, 301-675-7323.

· Community Outreach Director – Vamsee “V” Potluri, Ambulatory Care Operations Director , Veteran’s Administration Maryland Health Care System
