|Message from Your ACHE Regent|
I hope that each of you enjoyed some well-earned time off this summer and that you are now engaged in rewarding activities.
The American College of Healthcare Executives Fall District Meeting took place on Monday and Tuesday, September 18 and 19, 2017 in Rosemont, Illinois. I was pleased to join Jeffrey Egnatovich, ACHE - NJ President, Alex Puma, ACHE - NJ President-Elect and ACHE Board of Governors member Nancy M. DiLiegro, PhD, FACHE at this conference. The Northern New Jersey ACHE Chapter was well-represented. Mr. Puma delivered a presentation on the ACHE - NJ Chapter’s educational activities which highlighted the terrific effort to bring continuing education to the New Jersey membership. Please take a moment to join me in congratulating Alex for his work on this important matter and his presentation.
Please take the time to think about one or more deserving individuals and send their names to me at the following website: Regent@ACHENJ.com. The submission deadline is October 13, 2017. The Regent’s Awards will be presented at the 2018 ACHE - NJ Annual Breakfast in January 2018. I am pleased to inform you that the ACHE Chairman-Elect, David A. Olson, FACHE will be joining us at the 2018 Breakfast.
New Jersey was also represented in the ACHE 2017 Annual Report and Reference Guide. Our friend and very active ACHE - NJ member, Jose Rojas, Jr., MD, FACHE, was one of the individuals included in this year’s Member Profiles within the Annual Report. Please go to page 8 to read about Jose.
We have sent several emails to our membership requesting nominations for the 2018 Regent’s Awards. There are five categories of awards available to New Jersey ACHE members and business partners:
• Early Careerist
• Senior Careerist
• Business Partner
• Lifetime Achievement
We discussed an important matter at the Fall District Meeting, the reinstatement process for ACHE members whose membership has lapsed. ACHE - NJ’s Board of Directors and I will be making a concerted effort to bring back those members who may have been lost this year. Please help us in this regard by encouraging a colleague whose membership may have lapsed to rejoin ACHE - NJ.
The 2017-18 academic year has begun this month. I will be scheduling visits to New Jersey colleges and universities who are members of the ACHE Higher Education Network. Healthcare administration is a growing part of the curriculum at many schools and I will be reaching out to both HEN and non-HEN schools this year. If you know of a new academic program in healthcare administration in New Jersey, please make me aware of it.I would like to remind you about the Fund for Healthcare Leadership sponsored by the Foundation of the American College of Healthcare Executives. This Fund provides scholarship opportunities for developing leaders in our field. Please consider a donation to the Fund as we enter the final months of 2017.
Please contact me if I can be of any assistance to you. Thank you for your support and participation in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Michael J. McDonough, DMH, FACHE
