Message from your OSHE Regent - Winter 2015

Dear ACHE Colleagues,

The autumn season featured a number of successful activities for the Oregon Society of Healthcare Executives, with several of our members being recognized for outstanding service to the Society and to Oregon.

The fall meeting was well attended, with an excellent program and the announcement of special service awards for the following members:

ACHE Exemplary Service Award to Larry A. Mullins, DHA, FACHE of Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis
ACHE Service Award to James A. Diegel, FACHE, of Redmond
ACHE Service Award to Jeanine A. Gentry, FACHE, of Madras
ACHE Service Award to George J. Brown, MD, of Legacy Health System in Portland

Each of these awards recognizes the recipient’s significant contribution to the profession through state and national association leadership, serving as a mentor and advisor for his/her colleagues, speaking at state and national meetings, and authoring publications for related professional journals. Congratulations and thank you to each of these outstanding professionals, and thanks to all those who helped organize the fall meeting and awards presentation.

Another excellent professional development opportunity will take place at the ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership, March 14-17, in Chicago. Congress will feature outstanding speakers and case studies of best practices in all aspects of healthcare leadership and innovation. I encourage you to register soon for the upcoming Congress.
In addition to our colleagues who were recently recognized for outstanding service to the profession, several others were among those honored by the Portland Business Journal in October for being among Oregon’s Healthiest Employers. Each year, the Business Journal partners with Indianapolis-based Healthiest Employers LLC to evaluate and recognize organizations who are offering exemplary employee wellness programs that can serve as models for others.  This is certainly an excellent example of “walking the talk,” and we offer our congratulations to Samaritan Health Services, Tuality Healthcare, Providence Health & Services and Kaiser Permanente for being among those recognized.
As our thoughts now turn to the upcoming holiday season, I wish you and your families the very best. See you in the New Year!

Marty Cahill, FACHE

COO, Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital
