President's Message Fall 2017
CAPT Lynn Downs, PhD, FACHE, President, STC-ACHE

Wow, this year has gone fast.  Your board has done some great things in the San Antonio and Coastal Bend area this year. I know there are more events and activities coming for next year. Your programs’ committee has offered various educational events with some great panels and discussions providing over 13 hours of face-to-face educational credits. Along with those face-to-face credits we have numerous qualifying educational and leadership activities to help enhance and meet your professional, educational, and leadership needs.

The chapter leadership was presented with two awards at this year’s Congress on Healthcare Leadership: the Chapter Merit Award and the Sustained Performance Award.  These awards are a direct reflection of the hard work the board does to bring you all the wonderful programs and an estimate to the members who continue to be active and work with the chapter.

In our effort to help give back to the community, the philanthropy committee engaged in several food bank volunteer events both in the San Antonio and Coastal Bend area.

This fall the advancement committee offered a 10-week on-line advancement program culminating in a full day face-to-face program led by our regent, Dr. Nowicki.  I look forward to seeing each participant pass the Board of Governor’s exam in the next few weeks.

Our communication and membership teams are always looking for new and creative ways to engage with members and the community. We are working with Geekdom and The Health Cell to provide monthly educational and networking events.  Our first such event was in October this year was a such a great success we plan to bring this partnership into 2018 providing opportunities for learning and collaboration – and each event is free to you!

As this year closes out, and the new board members are voted in, we will end with our strategic planning event as we look forward to 2018 and bringing bigger and better events and opportunities for our members.

Please stay involved and informed and please go to our web site at stc.ache.org to learn about all the latest happenings.

I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as your chapter president this year and I know next year will only be better with Roxanne taking the lead.   Thank you all for your support this year and I wish you each a blessed holiday season.

Lynn Downs, PhD, FACHE
