President's Message Summer 2021
Mary Anne Weidner, MHA, MT, (AMT/ASCP), HACP (CIHQ)

As I end my second year as President of the STC-ACHE, I notice that our Chapter, and the ACHE at large, has never been more relevant and important for those of us in healthcare and those related fields in Texas and across the nation and world.  I've come to think of the ACHE network as one very large, multi-national, best in class team.  A team that provides abundant opportunities to learn, teach, mentor, and share top quality information.  A team that enables us to advocate, brainstorm, give back to our communities, meet, network and socialize with friends and colleagues all over the country and world.

Vice President's Message Summer 2021
Kimberly A. Tansey, FACHE

Since moving to South Texas, I am always surprised when September rolls around and people start talking about autumn.  The changing of the seasons is much more subtle here than back east, with less 100-degree days (in a row, at least) and more school buses getting back on the road.  With fall upon us, we will be spending more time indoors and around groups of people.  In the healthcare sector, that means a potential increase in transmission rates and a continued increase in our admitted patient population.  Now is not the time to stop the preventive measures, nor is it the time to send confusing messages to our community.  We must be united about our support to follow the science and promote access to vaccines and personal protective gear for everyone, including those most at risk.

Message from Your ACHE Regent - Summer 2021
As I write this newsletter, I realize we are still facing the same concerns and safety precautions that we were this time last year. While we all hoped we would be “back to normal” or some semblance of normal, it seems with the continual rise in COVID-19 cases; we are still facing the need to social distance and limit the number and sizes of in-person gatherings. While this somewhat hinders our ability to hold educational and social events, both chapters have become experts at these limited forums, and I know both will continue to provide excellent educational and social events in keeping with the safety of all our members. Read more

Healthcare Leadership - Thoughts From My Foxhole

Shared Thoughts from Forbes

In recognition of its 100th anniversary, Forbes Magazine published a series of 100 essays from business leaders.  The magazine editors then distilled each essay to a single quote: 100 quotes.

This month, without commentary, I’ve selected 23 of these equally meaningful quotes to share with you.

Diversity Committee Director Update
Diversity Director, Jake Reyna-Casanova

Can you believe it's already September?! Before we know it, we'll be saying Happy Holidays! However, before we start thinking about all the gifts we have to get, I am excited to share some updates as the Diversity Director and highlight Hispanic Heritage Month.   Read more

STC-ACHE Local Program Councils
Local Program Councils are critical extensions of the ACHE Chapters into the outlying areas of chapter boundaries. They provide members located in distant locations from the main chapter headquarters the opportunity to participate in similar chapter activities as found in the larger chapter location without requiring traveling extended amounts of distance and time. LPCs provide Face-to-Face Educational events for credit, hence assisting members in meeting their ACHE educational credentialing requirements. LPCs also provide opportunities for members in networking get-togethers and volunteer events in the community,  such as Food Bank and Beach Clean-Ups, thus serving their communities while acquiring ACHE credits for charitable endeavors. All LPC events importantly provide folks with social networking, allowing folks to get to know each other, share ideas, commensurate, and make new friends or renew friendships, among other benefits. All events are open to participation by ACHE members from anywhere in the South Texas Chapter area. Read more

We are excited to announce that our virtual 2021 Student Symposium will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021!

The focus of this year’s symposium is on career positioning and the examination of various careers in healthcare. During the symposium, many of the STC-ACHE Board Members will share their individual career perspectives, experiences, and journeys through ACHE. It will be an exciting session of learning and sharing, and we hope to see you there!
