Message from the President
Kyle Dorsey, THEF President

I hope everyone had a nice summer and found some time to relax. We have had a busy education calendar over the last few months. In May, the chapter hosted the 1st Annual THEF Leadership Summit. Jason Burke from SAS moderated a fascinating discussion with Dr. William Atkinson, FACHE, of WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Dr. Allen Daugird of UNC Physicians and Associates, Genie Komives from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Ann Lore from the Duke University Health System. Those in attendance were able to learn from the panel’s wealth of experience and heard how these separate organizations are partnering together to overcome the current challenges in Healthcare.

In June, THEF and Pfeiffer University co-hosted a panel discussion led by David T. Boucher, FACHE, CEO of Companion Global Healthcare. The three panelists, Don Harden, RN, BSN, Clinical Coordinator, Duke International Patient Services, Bill Ruschhaupt, MD, MBA, Chairman, Global Health Center, Cleveland Clinic and Josef Woodman, CEO, Patients Beyond Borders shared their knowledge regarding patients coming to the U.S. for medical care as well as Americans traveling abroad for medical procedures, surgery and dental care. Thank you to all the Pfeiffer students who helped organize this very interesting discussion.

Nominate someone - or nominate yourself

Over the next few months, THEF will offer several educational opportunities in addition to a networking event. At the networking event, we will host elections for new officers. If you or someone that you know is looking to get more involved, I encourage you to submit a nomination to be a chapter officer. The current team has done a really great job over the last year and has created momentum that we would like to carry forward in the years to come. The following positions are open for nominations:

  • President-Elect
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Education Chairs – 4 positions
  • Membership Chair – 2 positions
  • Sponsorship Chair
  • Fellow Advancement Chair

Please submit your nominations to Christa Johnston, FACHE (

I am looking forward to the next few months and see you at the Optimizing Patient Flow event on Monday, August 27. For more information on this event and who will be speaking, check out the article "Don't miss these two THEF events."

The Board and I are here to serve you and our community. Please let us know how we can best achieve this goal.
