A Message from Your THEF President - Heather Jacobson

Happy New Year, THEF Colleagues!

I am excited for all that 2017 has in store, and I look forward to serving the chapter as your President.

First, I want to start by thanking immediate past President Jessica Landin, FACHE, and my fellow THEF Board members for their leadership and contributions in 2016. Last year the board coordinated four Face-to-Face credit education events, two networking events and community service opportunities. Additionally, we secured additional sponsorship support to help keep these events at a low cost to our members!

The 2017 THEF Board held their annual treat in November and has been busy planning chapter activities, growing our committees, developing new programs, partnering with other healthcare organizations and securing sponsorship support. I look forward to serving with our Co-chairs and committee members this year in order to achieve our 2017 goals.

Our 2017 Goals include:

1) Increase membership engagement and satisfaction.

  • This year, our goal is to offer twelve face-to-face ACHE Credits and at least one hour of qualified credit.

  • We will continue to partner with other local professional organizations to increase event attendance and add diversity to the perspectives on our panels and other offerings. We already have the upcoming 22nd Annual UNC HESA THEF Dinner on Cultural and Language Challenges of Diverse Patient Populations on April 4, 2017, in which members can earn 1.5 ACHE face to face credits.

  • Grow membership by 17% from both traditional areas of the industry and new ones including the areas of healthcare continuum, academia, pharma, research, consulting, physician services, and more. This includes increasing our student involvement and growing membership with ENCHEG, our local program council on the eastern side of the state.

2) Remain financially viable and develop a plan to generate additional financial resources for the chapter.

  • Our Sponsorship committee has set a goal to raise $7,000 in sponsorship money this year. Our sponsorship Co-Chairs, Heather Bogan and Maryanne Volkringer, are off to a great start and have secured sponsorship funding from Johnson & Johnson. We are also grateful for our continued sponsorship support from Duke MMCi, and LabCorp.

3) Increase sustainability of chapter operations through effective leadership practices by sustaining active board engagement during board operations and chapter events, completing Chapter Governance self-assessments and developing strong succession planning to cultivate continued strength in the board leadership for future years.

4) Increase brand awareness and perceived value among members and key stakeholders in healthcare leadership in order to promote ACHE's Mission, Vision and Core Values.

  • In February, several members of the board participated in a Lunch ‘N Learn panel at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in order to share the benefits of THEF and provide career advice.

  • In order to promote and support Advancement, we are planning on hosting a Board of Governor’s Prep Course for eligible members.

  • Our Membership committee is working on a strategy to increase engagement of senior leaders and executives as well as implement a mentorship program in order to cultivate knowledge and experience for professional growth.

We need your help to achieve our chapter goals. Work, life and family, can make us feel that we do not have time to take on more. However, one thing I have learned as an ACHE member is that the more you put in, the more you get out. I encourage you to find at least one thing you can contribute to help strengthen the chapter and enhance your experience.

A few ideas to get you thinking:

  • Volunteer at an event

  • Sign up for a committee: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0844a8ac28a3f94-commitee/45100073

  • Write an article on a local healthcare issue or innovation for the next THEF newsletter

  • Have coffee with an early or mid-careerist to serve as a chapter mentor

  • Advertise a THEF event in your organization’s newsletter

  • Sponsor the chapter or a specific event

  • Invite a friend or colleague to join you at an upcoming event and/or encourage them to join THEF

Whether you have one hour or 50 hours to give, we want to hear from you! Feel free to contact me directly or to email the THEF inbox-
thefnc@gmail.com. Either way, I look forward to hearing from you and to meeting you at one of these upcoming THEF events:

March 23-Networking at Mez-Registration is NOW OPEN!

April 2-UNC HESA/THEF-Panel on Challenges of Diverse Patient Populations. Registration is now Open!! Register Here

Here’s to a successful year!

Best,

Heather N Jacobson, M.S., CCC/SLP, MHA
