A Message from Your THEF President

A message from your THEF President.

Happy New Year, THEF Colleagues!

I am excited for all that 2016 has in store, and I look forward to serving the chapter as your President.

First, I want to start by thanking immediate past President Neil Kinard, FACHE, and my fellow THEF Board members for their leadership in 2015. Last year the board coordinated four Face-to-Face credit education events, two networking events, and several opportunities to volunteer alongside fellow chapter members. Their contributions laid a strong foundation and set us up to succeed in 2016.

The 2016 THEF Board is in full swing! After a full day retreat in December, the new Board has been busy setting goals and planning chapter activities for the year. We have a dedicated team, from a variety of local healthcare organizations, working hard to serve you and to add value to your experience as a THEF member.

Our 2016 Goals include:

1) Continue to provide value to chapter members by offering timely, high quality, continuing education opportunities. This year, our goal is to offer at least nine face-to-face ACHE Credits. We have four face-to-face opportunities already planned for this year; as well as several networking events (see dates below). We continue to partner with other local professional organizations to add diversity to the perspectives on our panels and other offerings.

2) Grow, Diversify, and Strengthen. With over 600 members from all corners of the healthcare industry, THEF already has a strong presence in the Triangle Healthcare community. Yet, this year we hope to:

·        Grow membership by nearly 10% from both traditional areas of the industry and new ones. Our recent member survey indicated that our members work in hospitals, academia, pharma, research, consulting, physician services, and more. Potential new members may come from new hires to your organization, professionals looking to stay current in their career, or even emerging areas of the industry.

·        Strengthen involvement from senior leaders and executives. In order to cultivate knowledge and experience to further our profession, we need senior level participation!

3) Promote and Support Advancement.  For those of us eligible for, or thinking about, advancement, the chapter has tools and mentors available to help – please reach out!

4) Give back by participating in at least two community service activities. As many of us know, it is difficult to transform healthcare outcomes without addressing the social determinants of health. Join us for one of the volunteer opportunities to support local organizations working to alleviate social or health issues in our community – staring with the NC Food Bank on March 4.

5) Continue to partner with local healthcare organizations. We have a lofty sponsorship goal this year –  $8,000 to support local THEF programming. We are on our way to achieving this goal thanks to LabCorp and WakeMed!

We need your help to achieve our chapter goals. Work, life and family, can make us feel that we have time to take on more. However, one thing I have learned in my six years as an ACHE member is that the more you put in, the more you get out. I encourage you to find at least one thing you can contribute to help strengthen the chapter and enhance your experience.

A few ideas to get you thinking:

Volunteer at an event
Join us for a morning of community service
Write an article on a local healthcare issue or innovation for the next THEF newsletter
Have coffee with an early or mid-careerist to serve as a chapter mentor
Advertise a THEF event in your organization’s newsletter
Sponsor the chapter or a specific event
Invite a friend or colleague to join you at an upcoming event and/or encourage them to join THEF
Whether you have one hour or 50 hours to give, we want to hear from you. Feel free to contact me directly or to email the THEF inbox- thefnc@gmail.com. Either way, I look forward to hearing from you and to meeting you at one of these upcoming THEF events:

  • March 4, 9am-12pm- North Carolina Food Bank- 5 spots open- RSVP to thefnc@gmail.com
  • March 10- Best Practices in Adapting to Local Regulations, Markets, and Trends- Registration NOW OPEN
  • April 7- UNC HESA/THEF- Panel on Telemedicine- Save the Date!

Here’s to a successful year!

Best,

Jessica Landin, MHA
