In January, our country celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It’s a day for celebrating inclusion, service, and the things that connect us all as humans.
Also in January my father had open heart surgery. After a couple days in the hospital, it started to become a joke and challenge on his care team that my dad insisted on finding a connection with every person who came into his patient room. “You’re from Vietnam! I’ve always wanted to go there!” and “You love music too! Have you ever heard of Steve Halpern’s healing station on Pandora?!”… and on and on. Three days post-op my dad even said to his nurse, “it would sure be nice to talk to someone else who has been through this too.” Making connections was so important to him at such a scary time. In this role, Taylor is responsible for expanding the University of Utah’s hospital affiliate regional network, identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships, growing and expanding telemedicine, and leading U Health’s physician relations team. At the beginning of each year I typically review the goals that I’ve set for the previous year and evaluate my performance for both professional and personal goals. I also formulate and set new goals for the current year. I feel this is a good process to perform as it allows me to have something to work towards as well as to see if I am making progress in both my professional and personal life. I encourage you to do the same.
Often, there are successes to celebrate, and equally as often there are things that I either fall short in or need to continue to improve on. Read more
