President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

The third quarter of 2017 had come to end and I am delighted to share with you some of our accomplishments.  Our ACHE chapter has been hard at work to fulfill our goal to help members network, learn, and advance.

In the last newsletter I shared that our chapter had been awarded an ACHE Chapter Innovation Grant to be used for development of early careerists. We completed the three part series titled “Next Generation of Leadership” with one event in Pittsburgh and one event in our Northern Region. The session in Pittsburgh was a roundtable discussion with three executives on the topic of “Do's and Don'ts of First Time Management Roles: How to Manage Different Types of Employees and Find Your Inner Leader”.  The final session in the Northern Region was a panel discussion on the topic “Avoiding Burnout as an Early/Middle Careerist”.  Both sessions were an overwhelming success and highly attended.  The Chair of the Early Careerist Network, Caitlin Colkitt, and her team did a tremendous job planning and executing the programming for this grant.

Another exciting event that was hosted in the third quarter was our annual “Dinner with the CEO” event.  This year we were very fortunate to have Aradhna Oliphant - President and CEO of Leadership Pittsburgh as our guest.  In addition to discussing her journey to becoming a CEO, Aradhna also facilitated an interactive dinner discussion about leadership.  This was a sold out event only open to a limited number of participants to allow for meaningful interaction with Aradhna and the other participants.  I would like to extend my sincerest thank you to both Aradhna and the Marketing & Membership committee for making this event possible

Finally, it is my pleasure to be able to share some exciting news with the chapter.  ACHE of Western PA was selected as the ACHE District 1 winner of the Diversity Award for Accomplishments in Diversity.  We are thrilled to have been nominated and receive this award.  Over the last few years our Western PA chapter has reaffirmed our commitment to diversity initiatives. We have worked to be representative of our population in multiple types of diversity- ethnic, gender, age, geography, professional experience, etc.  We look forward to sharing more details of our efforts with the chapter and continuing our journey to be representative of our membership.

We have many education and networking events planned throughout the remainder of the year.  Please consider joining us at an upcoming event in the Pittsburgh area or Northern region.  The following are upcoming events:

  • October 13- The Western Pennsylvania Healthcare Summit

  • October 18 – Improving the Health Status of Your Community

  • October 27 – Fall Education Series – 1. Medical Staff Relations 2. It’s All About Vision: The Role Vision Plays in Your Strategic Planning Process

  • November 15th –Bill Woodson, Senior Vice President of Sg2 “The Evolving Role of Partnerships”

  • December 7- ACHE of Western PA Annual Meeting

Please go to our website http://westpa.ache.org/ to see more detailed information about registration for these upcoming events.

As always, we hope that the Western PA chapter of ACHE is a go-to resource for you to Network, Learn and Advance your careers.   We appreciate your membership here at ACHE of Western PA and are eager to meet you at an event.  We welcome your participation and any feedback that you may have.  I look forward to connecting with each and every one of you.
