Message from Your ACHE Regent

Hello Washington!

As I write this, my final Regent Message, it is cold but sunny in my part of Washington. The New Year has passed, work pace is back to normal, and the politics surrounding healthcare in DC are heating up. What becomes of the ACA and other CMS payment initiatives, only time will tell.  It is sure to be a bit unpredictable for a while.

I am thankful I was able to serve as your Interim Regent. I appreciate all the people across the state and ACHE who helped me out in doing the job. In March at Congress, ACHE will swear in Andrea Z. Turner, FACHE, your newly elected Regent who will commence a three-year term. I have worked with Andrea a long time here in the state and we are in good hands with her in this role. She worked hard as Chapter President and I know she will do so as our Regent. If she calls upon you for help, please step forward. As the saying goes “Many hands make light work.”

One of the duties I do each month is send out letters acknowledging new Members, new Fellows, and recertified Fellows. It is striking how many new Members have joined us this year and also the commitment many of you have made to advance to Fellow or to continue your Fellowship with recertification. In 2015, we had 107 new Members join the WA Chapter – double digit growth. We had 49 new or recertifying Fellows in the state. Thank you all for your commitment to ACHE, to each other, and your own professional growth.

January also marks the beginning of a new Chapter Board term. Martin Benning, FACHE will assume the role of Immediate Past President, and Dina Feil-O’Leary will become the new Chapter President. Thank you Martin for your leadership this last year! Dina, we look forward to your term and, on behalf of the membership, we are here to help. Pamela Rock, FACHE will become President-Elect, James Sapienza, FACHE becomes Treasurer, and Lori Nomura is Secretary. I would like to also acknowledge the huge contributions of James Cannon, LFACHE, our outgoing Treasurer, and Jacqui Sinatra, FACHE, outgoing At Large Board Member. Thank you both. We will also welcome new At Large Members beginning their terms – Joel Flugstad, Karin Larson-Pollock, MD, FACHE, Sheridah Lemmon, and Brian Barry. Thank you for your commitment to serve the chapter.

This coming year, the Chapter will see an expansion of WA State based face-to-face learning opportunities – stay tuned for more on this! We are also expanding our Meet and Mingle network events, having had good success in Seattle and Olympia areas. Look for Spokane area, Bellevue and Everett area events to be announced soon. We’d love to have you either co-host or at least stop by and meet your fellow members.  Look for emails announcing these events and register online!

If you are going to Congress, I hope I will see you there. If you are attending, drop me an email. I’d like to make sure to connect at one of the receptions or a dinner.

Again, thank you and be healthy!

William J. Reid, FACHE
Regent for Washington
