President's Message

Happy Holidays!

As we approach year end, I want to say thank you for permitting me to serve as the WSHEF Board President.  It has been a terrific year and I have had the opportunity to work with a very committed and talented group of leaders on the Board and in our membership. During the year we made great strides in outreach and engagement with our membership and expanded program offerings. Examples of some of WSHEF’s achievements this year include:

  • Early Careerist program led by Brian Barry.  This program involved a group of 12 early careerists and provided education and networking opportunities funded in part through an ACHE innovation grant.
  • Development of our Champions Network, led by Brooke Stegmeier and Chris Coon.  The Champion Network is a group of leaders from healthcare organizations all across Washington who serve as a point of contact for disseminating information and providing feedback on our activities with a goal of better serving and engaging our members.
  • Collaborative program in Spokane with the Washington Patient Safety Coalition on Communication Resolution Programs featuring Dr. Thomas Gallagher of UW Medicine, Dr Jeff Collins of Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital and Dr Randal Moseley of Confluence Health.
  • Advancement webinars led by Parke Corbin.  These information sessions are offered via webinar for members wanting to advance to Fellow, helping them to learn about the process and tips for successfully passing the exam.
  • Meet & Mingles coordinated by Aimee O’Neill and Kellie McClure providing networking and social opportunities for WSHEF members throughout the year across the state.

A special thank you to two individuals who are transitioning off the board at year end and who have meaningfully impacted the organization during their years of service.  Nick Malos co-chaired the programs committee for several years and worked tirelessly to provide excellent programs for the membership.  Emily Yu served in several capacities including leading the Asian Healthcare Leaders Forum (AHLF) and supporting the Communications Committee with website support.  Emily also recently hosted the AHLF annual holiday potluck (see below).

As we look to 2020, I want to thank the entire WSHEF Board and in particular the officers, President-Elect Brian Barry, Past President Pam Rock, Secretary Sue Miller and Treasurer Ryan Sundquist.  It has been a pleasure working with you!  I also look forward to welcoming our new board members, Melissa Moran Hodge and Brittany McCreery and volunteers Alyssa de le Rosa, webmaster, Dylan Blackburn, AHLF President and Patrick Lee, AHLF Board liaison.

The Board will be holding a half day retreat in January to plan for the year ahead.  If you have questions or ideas for the Board to consider, we welcome your input!  Feel free to reach out to me at Lori.Nomura@foster.com.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and best wishes for the New Year!
