CoC Holds Annual Committee Meetings

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) held its annual committee meetings May 12-14, 2011, at the American College of Surgeons (ACS) headquarters in Chicago.  These sessions involved the main standing committees, including Accreditation, Cancer Liaison, Education, Quality Integration, and the Executive Committee.  In addition, sessions were held with the CoC’s member organization representatives and with the state chairs and American Cancer Society division relationship managers.  Two general sessions were held for all members, one of which was held in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG) to discuss the impending changes to the cooperative group system, and the second focused on the quality initiatives of several of the CoC’s key member organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology), and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.  The quality initiatives of the CoC as well as the College’s Inspiring Quality Campaign were highlighted.  A successful poster session featured the quality initiatives of 12 of the CoC’s 47 member organizations.  A full summary of the meeting deliberations is available on the CoC News page of the CoC website at
