SENATE COMMITTEE PASSES WATER/WASTEWATER FUNDING MEASURE
On June 23rd the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) approved a water resources authorization bill by voice vote. AGC has been a leading advocate of the Senate bill (S. 2550) which would authorize $35 billion over the next five years -- $20 billion of which is for the Clean Water (wastewater) State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF) and $15 billion for the Drinking Water SRF.
While Democrats offered an amendment that would have changed the way formula funds are distributed, it was defeated on a party-line vote. However, the EPW Committee did approve an amendment offered by Senate Minority Whip Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that would ensure laborers on federally funded projects receive prevailing wages under Davis-Bacon. Even though the bill was reported from the EPW Committee, it is unclear when the full Senate will consider the measure. For more information, contact Stu Megaw at 703-837-5321 or megaws@agc.org
