AGC WORKING TO MAINTAIN CLEAN WATER SRF SPENDING
AGC Lobbies to Maintain Federal Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds in the Ominbus Appropriations Bill
Over the past two weeks, AGC legislative staff visited every U.S. Senate office attempting to get signatures from Senators on a letter demonstrating support for maintaining $1.35 billion for the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Funds (SRF). Earlier this year, House Appropriators cut $500 million from the Clean Water SRF program in their FY 2005 Appropriations bill. However, Senate Appropriators favored maintaining existing funding levels for the program.
While AGC’s efforts resulted in 39 Senators pledging their support for maintaining last year’s funding levels, it appears that House and Senate Appropriators are planning to cut the Clean Water SRF program by roughly $258 million from last year’s level to reduce the overall cost of the omnibus spending bill.
While the House and Senate will not vote on the final omnibus bill until Friday or Saturday, AGC will continue to urge Members of Congress to restore funding for the Clean Water SRF program.
