Great Participation in AEC Community Legislative Day

On February 21, Georgia Branch, AGC partnered with the Georgia chapters of AIA and ACEC to present the much anticipated Building Georgia Legislative Day. Over 220 professionals from the AEC community attended events at the Railroad Freight Depot and at the state Capitol. Approximately 100 of the attendees were representatives of Georgia Branch, AGC member firms.  

Governor Nathan Deal opened the day's luncheon with remarks on his newly announced Go Build Georgia initiative.

AGC Legislative Report; Inching Closer to Important Crossover Day

The current legislative calendar is targeting Wednesday, March 7, 2012 as the 30th Legislative Day (Cross-Over Day). Bills will be moving at a much faster pace during the next two weeks. Below are a few legislative proposals of particular importance to the construction industry.

ALERT: New Design Values for Southern Yellow Pine

In October 2011, the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau (SBIB) and the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) submitted changes to the American Lumber Standard Committee on visually graded dimensional lumber. Once approved, these changes will have the affect of shorter spans of structural lumber made of SYP used in both residential and commercial construction. The proposed reductions of 25% - 30% apply to bending, tension, compression and modulus of elasticity values. The last major change for Southern Pine and other North American species were published in 1991.   How will this impact your projects?
