Effective March 15 - DOJ Mandates Use of 2010 ADA Standards for Accessibility Design

Georgia’s ADA Coordinator’s Office recently released information regarding mandate requiring any project a contractor permits on or after March 15, 2012 to be reviewed/designed for compliance with the 2010 ADA standards for accessibility design. The Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner is charged under OCGA Title 30 Chapter 3, “Access To and Use of Public Facilities by Persons with Disabilities”, to promulgate rules and regulations to administer and enforce this law. The current rules and regulations are 120-3-20 “Accessibility” and can be downloaded from. . .

AGC Steers EPA Clear of Environmental Extremes in New 2012 Stormwater Permit
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently finalized its 2012 construction general permit (CGP). The CGP applies to and authorizes stormwater discharges from construction projects that disturb one or more acres of land in the areas where EPA is the permitting authority.

While far more burdensome than the agency’s old permit, the new permit is a far cry from the one that EPA proposed in April 2011. Specifically, AGC persuaded EPA to make all of the following changes that AGC’s Environmental Forum considered most important.

Wells Fargo: Georgia's Recovery Kicked Into High Gear

The annual revisions to the nonfarm employment data show that Georgia’s economic recovery has been considerably stronger than initially reported. Preliminary data for 2011 had shown the state and greater Atlanta losing jobs on a net basis, with nonfarm employment falling by 15,600 statewide and by 17,600 jobs in the Atlanta area. The revised figures show the state and Atlanta area adding jobs at a relatively healthy clip . . .

Despite January "Freeze," Construction Spending Appears to be Thawing

Although the Census Bureau reported that construction spending flattened out in January, there is growing evidence that 2012 as a whole will be a better year than 2011. Private nonresidential and residential spending may both post double-digit percentage increases, while the decline in public spending may level off.

The Census Bureau reported on March 1 that spending put in place in January totaled $827 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate. (Seasonal adjustment removes monthly variations due to normal weather and holiday patterns to reveal changes attributable to one-time factors or economic trends.
