AGC Urges Members to Contact Senate About Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) Reauthorization
Senate negotiators continue to slowly consider a final plan to bring the 2004 WRDA Reauthorization to the Senate floor before adjournment. The bill, which provides authorization for all Corps of Engineers water projects, is expected to be amended on the floor via a Manager's Amendment with primarily technical changes. Other changes recommended by AGC will be addressed via amendment on the floor as well.

Due to the numerous provisions of concern that must be addressed, such as major Corps reform requirements, mitgation rules and peer review oversight, some Senators have indicated they are willing to offer an amendment to the bill on the floor to address these concerns. It is urgent that all AGC members contact their respective Senators via the AGC Legislative Action Center by visiting the Web site and clicking on "WRDA Reauthorization." AGC members may also call their Senators with the following message:

AGC supports passage of WRDA 2004, which has many worthwhile provisions, but several of the "Corps reform" provisions, as currently written, will delay or impede the formulation and implementation of their projects and cause unnecessary litigation rather than "streamlining" the process and improving the operations of the Corps of Engineers. AGC encourages you to support improving these provisions in a Manager's Amendment or separate en bloc amendment addressing these concerns. [ return to top ]
