FY 2006 Funding Package for Corps of Engineers Coming Together
House Frees Up Funds to Improve Funding for Corps Substantially

Negotiations are reportedly underway to bridge the gap between House and Senate FY06 Energy and Water spending bills. If successful, the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works program is poised to be granted its largest annual appropriation in years.

In discussions with Congressional staff close to the discussions, the House has reportedly agreed to make available an additional $750 million in funding over the subcommittee’s original allocation of $30.5 billion for the FY06 Energy and Water Appropriations measure, already an increase of $700 million over FY 2005. House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman David Hobson (R-OH) has reportedly suggested that $600 million of the proposed increase be apportioned to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works program, increasing the agency's FY06 funding to the Senate-approved level of $5.3 billion, the largest appropriation in years.

AGC continues to work with House and Senate leaders as the discussions continue. Increased investment in the Nation’s Civil Works program is a major priority issue for the 109th Congress as identified by AGC member contractors.
