Breaking News Alert: Senate to Vote on WRDA Next Week!
Long-Awaited Legislation to Finally Receive Senate Consideration

After several long years of negotiations, the Senate will consider S. 728, the Water Resources Development Act of 2006. This important legislation authorizes billions of dollars in USACE projects for navigation, flood control, environmental restoration and hydroelectric power.

The measure, which is designed for reauthorization every two years, has been repeatedly blocked by debate over how to reform USACE. Those issues will finally be debated on the Senate floor next week. The House passed its version (H.R. 2864) of WRDA in July, 2005.

AGC has long advocated for passage of this critical legislation. In order for AGC members to have maximum impact for passage of WRDA, please contact your Senator by phone at (202) 224- 3121. Do it anytime Friday, Monday or Tuesday (Wednesday only if the debate is carried over). You should also write your Senator via the AGC Legislative Action Center.

It is expected there will be approximately 9 amendments offered:

1) Boxer: Folsom Dam
2) Feingold/McCain: Mitigation standards
3) Feingold/McCain: Peer review
4) Inhofe/Bond: Independent reviews
5) Inhofe: Fiscal Transparency
6) McCain/Feingold: Prioritization report
7) McCain/Feingold: Chief of Engineers
8) Nelson (Fl): Water projects
9) Specter: Federal hopper dredge

The main focus of concern for AGC members center around the four “Corps Reform” amendments to be offered by Feingold-McCain. You should write your Senators to let them know you support the bill, but do not support the Feingold-McCain amendments. Visit the AGC Legislative Action Center to write your Senator TODAY!!!
