STP Participation at Highest Level in a Decade!
The AGC of Greater Milwaukee's Fall Education Program will begin next month, and feature the Newly Redesigned Supervisory Training Program Courses!

The AGC of Greater Milwaukee has the most successful STP program in the country, and this new format will only add to that success!  The AGC of America has worked to compressed the program from ten units down to six units, thus providing better, more relevant content in a reduced time frame.

The New STP will feature:
•An E-Book for every one of the six units
•Every STP course will be activity based, with discussions, case histories, problems to solve and exercises
•Participants will draw upon field experience and learn by interaction with others from all areas of the construction industry
•Instructors will come from the industry, providing first-hand knowledge and experience
•Upon completion of the six STP Units a Formal Certificate of Completion will be issued by the AGC of America

We are putting the final touches on our Fall curriculum with all the other trainings your company needs, including forklift training, crane rigging and signaling, and OSHA 10- & 30-Hour training.  The Calendar will be distributed in a couple weeks, or you will be able to find it on our website, www.agc-gm.org under the Events tab.

A Look at the Largest Milwaukee-Area Construction Projects Underway
When this year’s Largest Construction Projects Underway list popped up on my radar, I knew I’d get some great responses because of all the construction activity in the seven-county Milwaukee area. I just didn’t know how many to expect.

Projects poured in from the areas of retail, office, industrial, residential, education and health care. This year, with contractors and architects answering the call for submissions, the list expanded from 25 to 37 projects, all with construction costs greater than $14.6 million. Check out the attached slideshow to see photos of some of the largest projects underway in southeastern Wisconsin.

The top dog, with a $450 million construction cost, is Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons set to reach for the sky at the end of East Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee by the last quarter of 2017.

Also rising nearby is Irgens’ Class A office building, 833 East. With a $101.5 million cost, it comes in at number four.

In the health care realm the clear leader is Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Center for Advanced Care in Wauwatosa with a $128 million construction cost.

The list ranges from projects in their early stages of site work and construction like The Corners of Brookfield to those that are just about completed, including Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Grohmann Residence Tower expected to be completed in August.

Projects on the list with completion dates within the next three months total 15.

Getting information for two high-profile projects, whose representatives didn’t want to divulge costs, meant relying on city building permits – specifically for the Mayfair Collection Phase II and the new Nordstrom store, both in Wauwatosa.

And while the cost of construction of these two projects may be much higher, we went with the information we had, which placed them both in the Top 25 of the list.

UW Cancer Center at ProHealth Care in Pewaukee, is another project where owners keep their cards close to the vest. We used the $70 million figure that had previously been reported in the Milwaukee Business Journal.

So take a look at a few images of some of the projects underway around our area and check out the full list in the July 3 edition of the Milwaukee Business Journal.

In March crews conducted the largest continuous concrete pour in state of Wisconsin history. Nearly 10,000 cubic yards of concrete was put in place during the 29-hour pour, to create the mat foundation for the 32-story Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons project in Downtown Milwaukee.  C.G. Schmidt, Inc., the General Contractor on the project, tells us more in This Video.

St. Francis Support Endorsed for $12.4M Lakefront Apartments, FBI offices Projects
St. Francis financing to help developers build a Federal Bureau of Investigation regional office and 315 apartments near Lake Michigan gained a unanimous endorsement on Tuesday.

The proposed tax incremental financing district would provide a combined $12.4 million to the two projects on South Lake Drive. The St. Francis Community Development Authority unanimously endorsed the proposal on Tuesday, sending it to the full Common Council for review on July 21, said Tim Rhode, city administrator.

The TIF district would give $9.9 million to Kenosha-based Bear Development to build 315 luxury apartments at the lakefront. S.R. Mills, president of Bear Development, said the company continues to plan the project and collect community feedback.

“It’s one important step in the process,” Mills said. “We have a lot of work to do.”

The TIF district also would provide $2.5 million for the ongoing project to convert the former Stark Investments headquarters building on the lakefront into the FBI Milwaukee division office. The Molasky Group of Companies of Las Vegas is leading that project.

The deals are crafted so the city of St. Francis would not front any money to support the private projects. The developers would pay the up-front development costs, but would recoup the money by recovering their annual property tax payments on the buildings for up to 20 years. If the projects fail to generate the forecast increase in property value, the developers would not get the money.
